Hey guys, I know I've asked questions about veganism in the past but this is a bit different. What are reasons to go from vegetarian to vegan? Thanks you guys :).

LostSoul: To defend the vegans out there, it's obviously pretty easy if others can do it...That's my take on it. Next time answer my question and not make rude comments, thank you.

Well, it depends on your reasons for being vegetarian. I'm just going to go ahead and assume you're vegetarian for animal rights. If that's true, well then yes you should go vegan. Dairy cows and egg-laying hens actually might even have it worse than the ones being slaughtered because they're kept alive longer so they spend more time being tormented rather than killed off as soon as possible like the ones meant for slaughter. Oh, also the dairy industry does directly contribute to the veal industry. So being vegan is definitely a great choice for those concerned about animal rights.
As far as health goes, vegans can be just as healthy, even healthier than omnivores and vegetarians with a properly balanced diet. There shouldn't even be a need for a vitamin, but if you insist on taking one, you should run a blood test to see if you're really missing out on something. Don't forget to make sure the vitamin is vegan friendly too. Vitamin B12 and other vitamins and nutrients sometimes thought to only be found in meat and animal by-products are actually found in soy milk and most cereals.
I've been vegan 6 months and feel healthier than I ever have and no longer have to feel guilty after I've eaten something. I don't miss any non-vegan foods either. At first I missed cheese, but I'm over it. Soy ice cream is great by the way. In fact, I think it's better than dairy ice cream.
Good luck on going vegan. You won't regret it.

There are many more than I can be bothered to point out here. I'll just say that animals have their own lives for themselves to do what they're supposed to do by nature, they're sentient creatures that are also vulnerable to physical and emotional suffering, they're not emotionless objects, they're not meant to be products or capital goods. Do some research. I'm sure it's easy to find. I'll even help you with it:

By the way, I'm a vegetarian, not a vegan. The only dairy I consume is in cookies, crackers, pastry or chocolate that has milk in it, but I avoid it and eventually will stop it altogether. I also consume a small amount of eggs, but only from free range chickens or better yet, chickens from my girlfriend's father, because I know they're well treated.

Some do it for Buddhist-thought reasons: detachment. Once you realise that you can get the nutrients from things that are not animal-based, it's a freedom of sorts. You have broken a link from the nasty things that happen in the livestock field, the slaughterhouse, the treatments meat is given, the packaging, the worry of trichinosis, BSE, tapeworm, E. Coli, salmonella, and the antibiotics that the animal is given (unless it's organic). In a way, it's for health. Many have said the body is a temple. So, why not keep the temple clean?

To lower your cholesterol, blood pressure and lose weight. If you follw a proper vrgan diet you can get the nutrients your body needs. I haven't eaten meat for 10 yrs. Am 71 yrs, old and in very good health. My dermatologist says my skin prpably looks so young because I don't eat meat. Sorry fo r the typos.

Egg-laying hens and dairy cows, whether factory-farmed or free-range, are slaughtered when their production rates decline.

Male chicks are worthless to the egg industry, so every year, millions of them are tossed into trash bags to suffocate or are thrown into high-speed grinders called macerators while they are still alive.
Male calves are often taken away from their mothers when they are as young as 1 day old and are chained in tiny stalls for three to 18 weeks to be raised for veal.
A Harvard Nurses’ Study of more than 77,000 women ages 34 to 59 found that those who consumed two or more glasses of milk per day had higher risks of broken hips and arms than those who drank one glass or less per day.
Eggs are loaded with cholesterol, about 213 milligrams for an average-sized egg.

I was going to say because slaughterhouses are unsanitary, but then realized, all those petrol chemicals on our fruits and veggies ain't good either.... (BTW, those chemicals are probably collected through the root systems of these plants, so cleaning off surface chemicals really is just silly)
Ummm can't really think of one, anything you eat in the world of today is likely bad for you somehow. Also, more cholesterol and fat equals less time working (Because pensions and retirement are a pipe dream, expect to work until you are dead or old, infirm, and destitute)
Cynicism is wonderful, I can ruin other people's days and feel good about it because I am enlightening them:-P

i think being a vegetarian is better than vegan because i love choclate milk and ice cream and cheese and butter and all that - i havn't ever heard of animals being hurt to get the milk out of them - it just feels like a baby nursing from them - so go for being a vegan but i think its better to be vegetarian

Personally and from a clinical perspective, I think most "vegans" suffer from an obsessive disorder of varying severity. So I would say the reason to going from vegetarian to vegan is an indicator of a possibile pathology.
