Scientifically speaking, the substances that exist in the universe all fall into a short list of catagories. These Catagories include: Animal, vegetable, mineral, chemical, bacterial, viral, etc. some of these catagories include substances that can be consumed by other living organisms, and a smaller number can be consumed by humans. It is interesting to note that no catagory mentioned above is fatal to humans by default, with regard to every substance in any given catagory. Nevertheless, a high percentage of every! catagory includes substances that are immediately or quickly fatal to humans if eaten. After those have been eliminated, it becomes a more complicated process. The purpose is to determine which substances are beneficial to the human body, that will help it heal faster, deliver more energy over a long period of time, digest faster and more completely, and keep the body's organs and fluids at the correct and ideal compositions so they can do their job with efficiency. This list has been created, and it has been shown that there is an extremely short list of animal matter mentioned, and an even smaller list of chemical substances mentioned. That's about where it turns up. The quantity of viral and bacterial substances the body needs is roughly the same number of substances as compared to the number of minerals the human body needs. The longest list is last, vegetable. This includes every living thing that doesn't fall into one of the other catagories, including fruits, vegetables, fungi, seaweed, grass, etc. It is interesting to note that there is still a very long list of vegetable based substances that cannot or should not be consumed, many of which are instantly fatal. It is also interesting to note that every substance in the universe can be fatal if taken in high enough volumes. Science tells us that our bodies are almost all water, yet overhydrating by drinking too much water too quickly can be just as deadly as dehydration. The same principle applies to the fat contained in hamburgers and chips, the sugar and caffeine in Coke and coffee, the acid in lemons and limes, the chemical and "natural" flavouring, colouring, flavour enhancers, artificial sweeteners, and every other additive represented by a 3 figure code. Different substances have greater or lesser effect on the body depending on the volume comsumed, so if you ate the volume of a peanut full of artificial sweetener in a day, you would die. If you ate the volume of 10 litres of water of peanuts in a day, you could die.
