If it's shredded office/white paper...check with your town. They get more money for white paper than other papers such as news print. So, because of this, some towns (I know mine does) will take the white paper at their recycle or transfer station and put it into a special bin.

BSA Troop 4, Amesbury conducts newspaper, magazine, office paper (shredded or otherwise) and cardboard recycling the first Saturday of even months 8:30 to noon, in the Mill Yard parking lot off Friend Street. My office uses a biodegradable shredder bag that is acceptable to the recyling company otherwise just put in paper bags and staple them closed.

contact a local nursery and ask if they want it - I work as a nursery nurse working with the 1-2 year olds and we love playing with shredded paper. Otherwise just put it out with the rest of the recycling.

Why not offer it to your local animal sanctuary or rehoming centre? The shredded paper is used for animal bedding as well as in litter trays for cats and dogs. If you have a huge amount of shredded paper regularly, the sanctuary will almost certainly collect it from you.

If your shredded paper is just ordinary, or a mix of ordinary and glossy magazine type paper, you could try taking it to your local vets or pet-shop as they are often very grateful for old newspapers and shredded paper for bedding in animal cages.

visit your local undertaker, I once worked for a company who packed their coffins with shredded paper before lining them, a bit morbid I know, but good secure recycling.

If it's regular mixed paper, it can be put out with your regular paper recycling.
However, if astro bright, waxed coated, and grease stained papers have been shredded with the regular paper, it has to be thrown out.

Apart from putting it in a wheely bin for paper/cardboard, as we do, you can put it straight onto your compost heap, to counterbalance grass cuttings for example. Should lead to faster composting...

Good ideas from Pobept K. How about bedding for small animals? If you don't have hamsters, mice or rabbits, you could offer it to your local petshop, or even to your vet if he has cages for patients staying overnight.
