I suffer from sometimes severe asthma and take medication regularly. I do believe that some of the meds are bad for me but so is suffocation! It's a trade off. I wouldn't take anything I didn't need but some of the stuff I do need can cause negative side effects such as heart palpitations, tremors and anxiety. With taking anything long term there are always consequences to the liver and kidneys because they filter out these chemicals. All I know is that if I didn't take the meds that I take....I'd be dead anyway!

All meds have side effects and effect different parts of your body. Usually, the only heart concerns, in cordination with asthma (depending on the meds), are the increased heart rate with the inhalers which can be uncomfortable or even painful to some people. The other thing is that if you're on an oral steroid it puts you at higher risk for infections which can always effect your heart. Non of these are usually anything to worry about. On the flip side you should always be aware of the side effects and long term effects of your meds.

All medications have some side effects. What you have to do is see if the side effect is actually worse than the asthma. If you cannot breathe I think that minor side effects would be ok.

They can be quite acidic in nature which isn't good for your teeth (can cause corrosion). If you can, rinse your mouth with tap water (preferably fluoridated) after each puff to neutralise the acids. Some puffers arent as acidic as others, check with your GP if they are an option for you. Also, some may cause a "dry mouth" which may promote tooth decay. Biotene is dental product which helps with that.
