Are you nervous? It could be anxiety.
Do you have chest pain, too? Could be angina.
Is it while you are sleeping? Might be sleep apnea.
Does it happen just after you are at a certain place or eat a certain food? Maybe it's allergies.
Are you in a closed up room? Poor air circulation could be causing too much carbon dioxide to build up--open a window or get a fan.
Regardless, if it doesn't clear up, call a doctor to be sure and make an appointment.

Babies do sometimes seem like they are gasping for air and can appear to stop breathing, but I would encourage your sister to get a second opinion. Especially if your nephew is under 6 months of age, your hospital may be able to admit him and observe his sleeping over a few hours. I know the fear of SIDS, however it is very rare. Most cases of cot death are actually sleeping accidents caused by not following SIDS foundation guidelines. If your sister follows them, your nephew will most likely be fine. Guidelines: Always lie him on his back to sleep. Ensure cot mattress is firm and fits the cot snugly. Keep all fluffy toys, bumpers, pillows, quilts, lambskins out of the cot. Avoid overheating. Never allow anyone to smoke around him. Lie him in the cot so his feet are near the base of the cot. Ensure any sheets and blankets are firmly tucked in. Never leave him in bed with a bottle.

It sounds like asthma, but check with a doctor. If it gets really bad, try breathing in a bag.

Maybe you should eat better. Or maybe it is just the heat causing it.
