She's going to be 15 and I want to do something special just.. Because really. I need to do something she'd really like but I have no ideas. She will be having a party already so I need to do something different. I don't know whether to do something really simple and just have a theme to it or what? Please help. =[

Just be there for her. You are a really good friend to think of her this way. She must be really special. Don't let yourself be absent on her birthday unless you have a really good reason. You are her friend and you know what she must really like. Try to remember all your memories with her and maybe you can find from it you an answer,

(is she like a best friend of yours?)

because during my sister's 18th birthday, her best friend since they were at least 9 yrs old came late at least 20 minutes and when her best friend showed up, my sister was really happy. She almost ignored others whom she invited for at least 5 minutes. I'm not saying you must do the same way because people are different. Your friend may not like if you do the same.

That's really nice of you :)
The only thing is that she's already having another party so there's a few things to consider there. First of all, guests will already be buying her a gift for her first birthday party and it could get expensive for them to have to bring another gift to the surprise party. Also, maybe instead of throwing her another party, you could talk to her parents to help out with the party she's already having. You could even make that into a surprise party. I remember a few years ago I couldn't decide on what I wanted to do for my birthday, so my parents and my best friend planned a surprise party for me. At the last minute I decided on simply taking a few friends out to dinner and a movie, and my parents agreed (even though they had already planned the surprise party.) My best friend ended up driving me home, and when I got there, the party was all set up. The next day, we still had the movie thing as planned, but we went out for lunch instead of dinner. You can do something like this, where you have the party your friend planned on having but add an element of surprise in there somewhere, whether it's before or after.

If you're set on throwing her a second party, I do think you should do what you said and just keep it simple. A theme is a good idea though :) How about a movie night? It's simple and can be done without spending a lot of money. Do you know your friend's favorite movies? Rent two or three from a video store and use her very favorite for the "main showing". As far as food goes, popcorn is a must. You could also set up a candy bar with bowls of different kinds of candy, and then let guests fill a small treat bag with his or her choice of sweets. Here are some other snack and drink ideas:

-Liven up regular popcorn by adding butter and then any of the following toppings: Cinnamon and brown sugar, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, white cheddar powder, or your favorite spice mix. Caramel corn and popcorn balls are good too :)
- I make a simple fruit punch for parties all the time and it's always a hit. Simply combine one 2-liter bottle of fruit punch with one 2-liter bottle of lemon-lime soda (Sprite, Sierra Mist, etc.) in a large punch bowl. Add scoops of rainbow sherbet right before serving. You can garnish it off with fruit slices if you'd like. Also, sometimes I adjust the fruit punch to soda ratio...add about half the bottle of each first and taste to see if you'd like more fruit punch or soda.
- Nachos and cheese are an inexpensive snack and a classic concession stand goodie. You can serve the chips with salsa, as well.
- Offer some healthier options like fresh fruit or veggie trays. You can save a lot of money by cutting up and preparing fruit yourself instead of buying those pre-made trays.

Other party details...
Invitations: Make invitations on the computer that look like movie tickets for all the guests. Make sure you put on there that the party is a surprise! Also be sure to include all of your contact information in case anyone needs to contact you.

For decorations, keep things simple. Since she's 15 the decor probably won't be her biggest interest anyway. Maybe just pick two basic colors, like red and gold or something like that, and use it for things such as the tablecloth and all of the paper products (cups, plates, etc.)

Well I hope everything goes well for you and your friend! Good luck with all the planning. I'm sure your friend will love how much time and effort you put into whatever you decide to do to make her birthday special. Have a celebrity impersonator show up. Or maybe Santa.
