My husband is getting out the Navy this month after serving for 10 years. He's not "retiring" per se, just getting his honorable discharge. I'm planning a surprise party for him and need game/ party ideas. It will be held at a local bar/ diner with karaoke and an outdoor pavilion. Thanks!

Drinking battleship. When someone loses a boat he has to take a shot. You should be able to find the rules for Party Battleship on the web.

Idon't know the circumstances but being military I have this vague hard to define thought. The party might be a wonderfull idea as you know your husband but......

Ok obviously he didn't absolutely hate the Navy at some point because he stayed in for ten years. But if he is getting out after being halfway to retirement (which would totally assure your futures) a military themed party might be bittersweet. Rehardless if he hates the Navy the party will remind him of that. But either way if you do something long enough you miss some part of it.

If there are any people you are about that have been military they might be thinking why would anybody get out after the time investment? 10 years is the point where you have proven yourself and things get good. Or when you reup you demand to retrain for a job that keeps you home. Civilians wonder about that to. Hey, no offense just a thought as your husband may have a great plan or his reasons.

The military theme thing is best left for a retirement. By all means have the party and have fun but the military theme per se doesn't feel right. I can't pin down exactly why. Just a thought. Now that idea someone had about making everthing patriotic...... that feels right.

If you were just asking about games and not decorations...... pardon me.

OK, this is my hubby's idea, he's a former vet. Make an arrangement with the owner or manager and pick the food. But go to the Army suplus store and get a bunch of MRE's and have them on the tables (not opened or heated). Nobody has to eat it. Then they'll serve the real food from the diner! It'll be a total surprise.

Thank your husband for his service from us.

I am not sure, but are you have children there also? If so, I think that I would do things that involve both the mothers and the kids such as hot potatoe or musical chairs where you have both the mothers and kids play. For fun you could have the mothers bring in a baby picture of them selves and then you put them on a board somewhere and number then and at the same time you have a list of everyone and then all the mothers have to guess what picture goes to what name and give out a gift. As for food have it be a bbq if possible and have everyone bring something. have fun.

Red, white and blue up everything. Most party stores have these items on sale from the 4th of July ( they are getting ready for Halloween ) For games to play at the bar, this might be just what you are looking for.
