Have you ever been served some wild looking dish, felt like you were going to barf, tried it just to be polite.... and then realized it was completely delicious?

What was it? Where?

Wow... lots of meat-related responses. Any vegetables?

Fermented Seal Flipper and Salmon Heads
These were buried in the ground for a couple of days to rot (ferment). Smelled like roadkill, but actually tasted tangy and not bad, especially with Labatt's Beer.

The Persian dish called fensenjoon is made from pureed walnuts and pomegranate juice looks like diarreah, but is absolutely delicious.
Stromming is Swedish for rotten fish in a bulging can. They consider it a delicacy only to be eaten on special holidays. It's not considered to be right unless it shoots out of the can when the can is pierced with the can opener. Disgusting, for sure, but quite tasty.

While on vacation in Acapulco, we took a cruise to an local island. They had a buffet laid out and everything was in Spanish. I thought I had chicken, and veal. Instead I ate iguana which is even better tasting than chicken, and bull meat. Delicious!

I have eaten a lot of stuff that I thought was great (like cow's tongue, sweetbreads, pickled calves' feet). It wasn't until I saw peoples responses on yahoo that I even realized anyone thought they were disgusting.

I bet if they tried them they would find them worth eating - they probably lead sheltered lives.

seafood paella from spain.. had all these weird tentacles sticking out of it.. thought the consistency would make me barf.. LOVED IT!
on the flip side, i live in argentina, and i just tried some sausage that was made entirely of .. well, clotted cow's blood. the smell, taste, and consistency of cooked blood (not to mention the idea) is enough to make me feel sick just thinking about it..
but thats just silly me and my "i'll try anything once" philosophy when it comes to food..
:)

Yes - My family usually cut up a live goat for special occassions, and this one time, my autie collected the goats blood while it had it's kneck cut, and then fried it up with all these spices.
I was so reluctant to try it, as it was goats blood, but I gave it a go, and it was really yummy. Not what I expected at all.

Lutefisk - cod cured in lye - at my folks place every Christmas Eve. The best lutefisk we ever had was the stuff my dad made from scratch using sloughshark (pike).

Cheese. I saw a block of moldy cheese that had fluid draining out of it like pus, and it smelled like dirty socks. Sounds pretty nasty huh? Well it goes good on wafer crackers, complimented by red wine
