Fish is meat.
Eggs are not.
Vegetarians don't eat fish.

Fish is meat, because it is the flesh of a dead animal.

Eggs don't qualify as meat because most commercially raised eggs are unfertized. This measns that they cannot, would not, under any circumstanses, turn into a baby chicken. Just like human women shed eggs every month.

Vegetarians (short for "lacto-ovo vegetarians") will not eat fish, but WILL eat eggs and milk products. This is the definition of a vegetarian. Basically the cut-off simple way to determine what a vegetarian will eat is to ask "Did an animal have to die so I could eat it?" Some eat fish and CALL themselves vegetarian, but they do not fit the official definition of a vegetarian. I really wish they wouldn't call themselves vegetarians, because it just causes confusion about what is meat. (Like your confusion) Meat is the flesh of a dead animal. Fish are in the animal kingdom.. therefore fish is meat. Its really not that hard.

VEGANS (short for "vegan-vegetarians" do not eat meat, eggs or milk or anything else that comes from an animal.

That all depends on how you define meat. Fish is meat in most people's minds. But because it is healthier than other meat it is the choice of many vegetarians to continue eating it. Some people think eggs are meat, others don't. I personally don't think they are because the eggs you buy at the grocery store are not fertilized, so they were never going to become an animal in the first place. It's really just a personal choice more than anything.

I can't speak to the vegan or vegetarian classifications for what is considered meats. But the FDA classifies any animal product that is primarly a protein is meat in regards to the food group. Eggs are classified this way, but the food group pyramid is designed to show you how much of each type of group you should consume for a balanced diet based on what calorie intake you wish to maintain.

Fish are meat, you need to exclude fish from your diet to call yourself a vegetarian

see www.vegsoc.org/fish for the details

eggs are normally unfertilised and so can never be meat.

I consider fish meat because it's flesh from a dead animal.
Eggs are by-products of animals, and are animal, not vegetable, tissue.

Fish is meat, eggs aren't but in supporting egg sellers you are also supporting the veal industry and slaughter houses. Although many vegetarians that dont eat fish will eat eggs even though wild fish dont go through toucher as the mother of the eggs do. But it depends on your views and why you became one. Cruelty wise and health wise fish is better eggs may not be directly meat but the torture mother hens go through is great not to mention all the cholesterol in eggs.

depends on how you look at it.

I don't consider either of them "meat" but it depends on the reason you became a vegetarian. If there were specific health purposes, well, fiish don't really have the antibiotics, hormones, or toxins and cholesterol that other meat does, and you digest it differently.
If it was for moral purposes, that you're trying to weed out animal products from your diet completely, well, then yes, fish, eggs, and dairy products are all no-nos. Depends on your perspective.

I don't eat beef, poultry or game, but I do eat fish. I would be violently ill if I tried to digest a hamburger though. I don't think there's anything wrong with eating fish. It's a replenishable source, fish (frankly) aren't sentient, there aren't the sort of problems in the seafood industry that there are in the beef and poultry industry, so I allow myself fish once in a while.

However, some people disagree with eating ANYTHING that comes from any animal at all. including snails, honey, cheese, etc.
