Hi, sometimes when I eat and I randomly check my levels it can be as high as 300. What should my target be? Some people say 140, some say 160. Alright thanks for the input.

I am also a type 2 diabetic and I was told my levels should be at or below 140 two hrs after eating and no higher than 100 in the morning before I have eaten anything. I hope this was helpful and good luck! (Just wondering, what are you eating that is making your levels go that high and are you on metformin (glucophage)?)

Random testing will not give you an accurate picture of your control.

Morning fasting should be under 110 and two hours after a meal (two hours after you start eating) should be 140 or under. Your numbers right before a meal should be in a similar range.

In that timeframe between when you eat and when your body has had time to process it, your numbers could be much higher.

You need to see a diabetes educator and learn to carb count. One response mentioned glucophage, but you don't state in your question that you are on that medication. You are putting yourself at an increased risk for diabetic complications such as stroke, coronary artery disease, foot wounds and ulcers, possible leg amputations and lets don't forget kidney disease requiring dialysis. If you can't afford to see a diabetes educator go to your local library and start reading everything you can on diabetes, call your local diabetes educator and see if they can recommend specific reading to you.

2 hours after a meal your sugar should be between 150-175. but as long as you are below 200 you are good to go.
