the heart doesn't just stop, there has to be a cause....even in a heart attack, the heart won't stop it will continue to try to function. But when there is something wrong with the heart, then there is terrible chest pain....often described as having an elephant sitting on your chest, or a steel band strap tightening around the chest. In this instance there is also nausea, sweating and pain radiating into the neck or down the left arm.

Well there are sudden arrests, arythmia, angina - if you are referring to sudden cardiac arrest then -
it include loss of consciousness; rapid shallow breathing progressing to apnea (absence of breathing); profoundly low blood pressure (hypotension) with no pulses that can be felt over major arteries; and no heart sounds
