Stop Snoring Sleep Apnea Forever

My ex-husband also snores when he breathes through his nose and is lying on his side. The vibrations are in the throat, palate and uvula as the air passes from the nose to the lungs, so you still snore...it's just usually not as loud as if your mouth was open. And this is even after a lot of $$$ and the pain of laser surgery to reduce the tissue volume of his palate and adenoids. The drs said that basically some people have a narrow airway, and a palate and throat with excess tissue and/or prone to collapse -- surgery may help or may not help at all. NOTHING worked -- and we tried every spray, nose strip and insert, etc.

The only thing I have ever heard really works is a CPAP machine, which is medically prescribed and worn with a pressure mask that creates smooth airflow and prevents vibration. Of course, many people cannot stand wearing a mask or the thought of being hooked up to a machine while they sleep (my ex was one of those). It is also expensive and must be maintained to work correctly. However, it is a godsend to people who are suffering from sleep apnea (cessation of breathing while sleeping, usually associated with loud snoring) and whose health is suffering as a result.

A dentist may also be able to fit a retainer-like device that is worn while sleeping, which brings the lower jaw forward and holds it in this position while sleeping. It tightens the throat and open the airways. Some people have success with this.

If you are overweight, try to lose some, since gaining weight makes snoring worse. The only other thing I can suggest is foam earplugs (I prefer the Husher and Quiet, Please! brands) for your girlfriends. It made me able to tolerate my ex most of the time, but honestly there were still plenty of nights I spent in the spare room.

Good luck...

special pillows can help to some degree. look for those that are curved to support you neck firmly. this is a low-cost, easy way to fix it.
