The EKG only shows the electrical activity of the heart, not mechanical problems, so yes, you could. Defects involving the valves or the multitude of veins and arteries wouldn't necessarily show up. It can also be a problem that comes and goes, and if the EKG isn't done when it's happening it won't show up either. That's the reason they have heart monitors and do ultrasounds- so they can get a better picture of what's going on and have a look at the actual heart itself.

most definately! i had problems with shortness of breath, being tired, etc.

due to family history the docs expected to find blockages. everything was clear so they proceded with further tests. stress, "glow in the dark", etc.

3 months later, they discovered i have a degenerative heart disease that there is nothing anyone can provide help for. there have only been 5 reported cases of this in the past 20 years.

whatever you might be experiencing, don't give up until you have exhausted every test and are satisfied with the thoroughness of the results.

Yes, I had a normal EKG, but an echocardiogram showed abnormal valve function. Stress test, nuclear scan and cardiac cath showed blockage.
