I'm a vegetarian who recently went vegan. I have serious PMS and a craving for ice cream, but i am avoiding it for obvious reasons. Are there any ice creams that contain no dairy? Let alone good?

The best is from Maggie Mudd, but if you can't get to SF, So Delicious from Turtle Mountain is pretty good and so is Soy Dream Green Tea flavor. But like I said, if you're anywhere near SF, Maggie Mudd is totally worth going out for.

Also, it's not ice cream, but Luigi's Italian Ices are wonderful.

Organic Rice Cream ice cream in the carrot cake flavor is currently my favorite. In either that brand or another, there's a Mudd Pie that tastes just like French Silk and also a chocolate banana that's really good. I've also tried cookies 'n' cream and that's pretty good, too.Toffutti Cutie ice cream sandwiches in the coffee break flavor tastes more like chocolate and caramel - they're sooo tasty. The plain ones taste just like regular ice cream sandwiches - you wouldn't know the difference. Health food stores - especially Whole Foods Market - have a pretty big selection of vegan ice creams. I haven't tried them all, of course, but they pretty much all look delicious. I in fact recently saw ice cream made of oat milk which sounds pretty interesting. . .

Vegan soy ice cream

Equipment:
- Blender or food processor
- Ice cream machine (the kind with the tub you chill in the freezer works fine, and they cost less than $50)

Ingredients
1 tetra box firm silken tofu (like Mori-Nu) -or- 8 ounces soy yogurt
Between 3/4 to 1 cup plain soy milk
1/3 cup maple syrup or brown rice syrup (or a combination)
2 tsp vanilla

Directions
Combine all 4 main ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend until thoroughly combined and smooth. Blend in any desired flavoring ingredients (see below). Pour into your ice cream machine, and freeze following the manufacturer's instructions.

Add-ins:
For various flavors, add to the food processor:

For Banana Soy Ice Cream, blend in 2 ripe bananas

For Strawberry Soy Ice Cream, blend in 12-16 frozen and partially thawed strawberries.

For Pineapple Soy Ice Cream, blend in 1 can or 1 cup of pineapple (well drained). You may want more sweetener.

For Ginger Soy Ice Cream, add either 1/4 cup preserved ginger or 1 to 2 inches grated fresh ginger (for preserved ginger, add to food processor so it gets ground up).

Use your imagination to come up with new flavors!

Flavored liquers or syrups are a great way to add punch. Try creme de menthe and chocolate chips, or coffee liqueur, or instant coffee powder...

Tofutti is 100% the very best. If you happen to be near the cheesecake flavors, than you are near heaven. Tofutti cuties are pretty good.

Seriously. Soy Delicious is prettty good, but has the stickyness of soy. Ricedream is also pretty good. Oh Soy ice cream bars are good Also, smuckers marshmallow topping is vegan. Check most toppings; you might be surprised. Also (I am not completely sure, so don't quote me) but I think that Shell topping may be vegan.

I like Tofutti Cuties, but only two flavors (peanut butter and mint chocolate chip).

So Delicious (formerly called Soy Delicious) and Purely Decadent are amazing.

My favorite vegan ice cream of all time is Double Rainbow Soy Cream... I had it in California and haven't seen it in any other states.

My favorite is Nada Moo, very creamy coconut milk base. Temptation is okay, but kind of grainy/fruity like it couldn't make up its mind whether to be an ice cream or a sorbet. I think it was Soy Delicious I had a while back, and it was about average - no better or worse than dairy ice cream. But Nada Moo beats the pants off of dairy ice creams, in my opinion.
Oh gosh, can't believe I forgot Rice Dream. It was over-sweet for eating straight, I thought, but great when mixed with soda for floats.

Soy Delicious Purely Decadent is awesome! I love their Pomegranate Chip with some AhLaska chocolate syrup on it.
Temptation also makes good vegan ice creams, but is a little harder to find.

Depends on the brands. I've liked some of the WholeSoy and Soy Delicious flavors I've had, but not so much the Soy Dream brand (though I thought their novelty ice cream items were good (cakes, chocolate pies, etc..). It will depend on the flavor you choose also.

Tofutti has great vanilla ice cream. It's texture is just like ice cream, but to me it almost has a coffee type taste to the vanilla but is still great. For every other flavor though I buy Purely Decadent. Their ice cream is amazing. My favorite flavor is their cookie avalanche but every flavor they make is good. I've tried other brands, but they didn't taste like regular ice cream so I didn't like them. Rice Dream was the worst in my opinion because its texture was nothing like ice cream and it tasted kind of chalky to me.
