First of all, you have to realize that other people your age are ahead of you. That is, because they are not vegetarian and not as generally healthy as you, they are doing things like hitting puberty sooner. They are growing faster and bigger at an earlier age. When I met some people from Japan who were the same age as me when I was 17, they literally looked like they were 12 years old. Why? Because if you talk to older people, girls used to get their first period when there where in their mid teens, say at 16 or older. Guys didn't start shaving until they were in their 20s. These days it's common for girls in Japan to have their periods at 12 while in N. America 8 or 9 years old is common.
So, you are only 12, but actually don't worry about gaining weight etc. If you are a healthy eater your whole life (I'm assuming this) then you will likely not get to your adult size until you are in your late teens or early 20s. You will see, that when you are 30, you will still be getting asked for ID, while your old school friends are looking more like 40.
So, don't worry about gaining weight, you don't need to. Trust me. In the next years to come your friends weight will be going up and down, they will be having all sorts of mood swings, getting cramps, feeling sick etc. with their periods, but if you eat healthy, that won't happen. My healthy eating female Japanese friends have never experiences such things that N. American females do. So, eat well, exercise a lot, drink lots of water, and let nature do its thing.
[PS, eating meat makes you skinnier, not fatter. Getting fatter/skinner has to do with metabolism, nothing else.]

You have a high metabolism, and you're only 12. You'll probably start putting on some weight naturally throughout puberty. Just start adding healthy calories and fats; i.e. nuts, olive oil, lentils, beans. If you fill up easily, eat several small meals and keep a bag of nuts and mixed fruit in your purse. If you're drinking low-fat milk, switch to whole milk. There are protein shakes made with soy protein; try that. Good luck, kid!

More importantly, are you healthy?
It's good that you are concerned about your low weight, it shows that you are health conscious (not just about being over-weight & stick thin).
Make sure you get your daily nutritional needs, have a well balanced diet (make sure you have enough protiens & carbs) & exericise. As long as you're healthy, you shouldn't worry too much about your weight.
(I'm sorry if this offends anyone!!!) but at my age you're right it's better to be skinny then fat (I used to have a hard time putting on weight) now I can't seem to lose that annoying 10pounds!!!
At your age tho, being heavy & light isn't as important as getting all the viatmins & nutrition needed while you grow.

Ok first off I wouldn't be concerned so much about your weight here as your health. I would continue to eat healthy even if it means you are thinner. As long as you are healthy that is all that is important.
You don't want to be putting your health at risk. I know you are only 12, but healthy at this age sets you up for your health later on in life and expecially when it comes to cholesterol.
I ate real healthy when I was younger and still eat pretty healthy as an adult and have good cholesterol as a result. I am thin, but healthy and that is all that counts. Be happy you aren't having to lose weight.

restaurant foods are pretty much always full of oil and very fattening. eat out often. if you want a vegetarian restaurant in your area, check out happycow.net
on the days that you don't eat out, cook with oil and margarine.eat lots of avocados and olives. then you have the veggie chips, ice creams, cakes, cookies, chocolates and pastries. . .since you're vegetarian, cheese. . .cheese is about the most fattening thing ever. . .
i'd love to be in your place! i wanna lose a few last pounds that just aren't coming off easily. instead, i tend to lose all my boobs. how unfortunate. :-/

The easiest way to increase your weight is to increase the calories you consume. A good safe method would be to increase your protein and carb intake. Since you don't eat meats (a large source of protein) I would suggest protein shakes but since you're only 12, consult a dietitian before starting any supplement regimen. Some good source of protein for vegetarian include, tofu, beans, and cheese. Also, eat more pasta since its a high source of carbs. Good luck!

Okay.. i'm the same age as you. I'm a full blown vegetarian for years now. But.. when I was little I wasn't raised like that. I'm thin, very thin, not skinny, NOT FAT. Here's a tip, gaining weight.. eat grains, pastas, rices, etc. etc. etc.
Then... you may also try Saranac soda like orange cream, rootbeer, shirley temples, etc. Lots of sugar in it.... you can't tell tho im not big on sugar.. but its good... great actually 180 cal. in each bottle.. good way to gain weigh. =D
Good Luck.

to gain weight in a healthy way, i would try a few different things. do you eat enough protein?(i'm guessing you get plenty, if your parents raised you as a veggie), you could add more protein into your diet and foods that are higher in calories, but still good for you.(avocado comes to mind...)You're still pretty young, but i bet you could add some easy weight training into your workout routine. The other thing i would suggest is to visit your local health food or vitamin type shop. the folks in the nutritional supplements would most likely be able to suggest some ideas.good luck!

Sometimes it's just your metabolism and there is not much you can do. I had the same issue as a kid and it was not until I was 30 when I finally put on some weight. If you eat healthy..dont worry about it..work on building muscle..not fat

Eat A LOT of good healthy food, 3 big meals to fill you up, instead of eating 6 small meals. Eat lots of sweet fruit, mangos, watermellon, avocado, coconut
eat nuts, macadamian nuts, pecans
eat seeds, sunflower is my favorite
cook with healthy oils like sesame oil, coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil
eat popcorn, rice, potatoes, pasta
I feel like I'm gaining weight just thinking about this.
