What Singapore did was using recycle water to be used for toilets e'g like flushing. They even built the recycling plant and the water are safe to drink. Australia have many bright and intelligent people I'm sure if given the chance the ideas would be put to good use.

Im pretty sure that they have in some areas due to the drought. Unfortunately whenever its introduction is put to the vote, the publics misconception/ lack of knowledge of the components of "recycled" water (especially for drinking & other general household uses) causes it to be voted against. A good article on it can be found via this link http://www.flinders.edu.au/?news=166
It is quite a good issue that more people need to become more informed on, especially with the consequences being felt as sorely as they are across the board here in Australia. There are quite a few more articles regarding the debate into implementing this plan into use that can be found by googling "recycled water in Australia" It is quite the hot topic!
