I'm 14 and trying to become a vegetarian but no one else im my family is and its hard when we go out. my parents a lot of times go out to mcdonalds kinda a lot and i dont get anything to eat I'm not saying they should make a veggie burger because i dont think that many would eat it considering only about 4% of americans are vegetarians or vegans. cant they atleast have a salad without bacon bits and chicken in it.

McDonalds used to have the Mcveggie but it didn't last long. Burger King however has the BK Veggie and you can get a side salad instead of the fries. Wendy's has the baked potatos, sonic has the supersonic breakfast burrito that you can get without sausage, toco bell has bean burritos, nacho bell grande without meat, and cheese quasadillas, Subway and blimpie have veggie subs, and Arby's even has a veggie sandwhich that isn't on their menu but you can order it. If you go to a sit down restaurant Ruby Tuesdays has a veggie burger, Outback has the Walhalla Pasta, Applebee's has the asian wrap that you can get without chicken (very good), and the olive garden has portobella ravioli and the soup, salad, and breadsticks. There are plenty of places that will also alter a meal to make it vegetarian for you and some places that will accomodate vegan meals. Don't forget to give positive feedback to let the company know they are doing a good job preparing vegetarian meals. This will encourage more options in the future.

I would stay away from there in the first place - their food is awful. However, you could always get a burger without the meat, a parfait, or ask for a plain salad. But stay away from the fries - they contain beef as a "flavoring."

Burger King does offer a veggie burger [not vegan, though] and it is cooked in the microwave so you don't have to worry about it being contaminated by meat.

well good for you for sticking to your beliefs. . .

personally, as a vegan, i wouldn't go to mcdonald's simply because it is a huge supporter of the industry that i avoid (the meat industry). even if you were to buy a veg option, it's not saying much because that money is still eventually going to the slaughterhouses. not to mention, usually in such establishments, especially the unhealthy fast food establishments, the so-called "vegetarian" options are cooked in the same oil as meat or on the same surface or hands that handled meat handle the other food. kinda yucky. BUT it's still not that difficult if you can convince your family to take you to a different restaurant. http://www.happycow.net has been an amazing resource for me. it lists restaurants and health food stores all around the world according to your area. whole foods market, which is owned by a vegan, usually has a buffet that has both vegetarian, vegan and meat options (and lists the ingredients on a sign above each) so it has something for everybody. i eat there quite a bit when i go to ann arbor. i've found so many great restaurants from happycow in detroit, ann arbor, grand rapids and chicago and am taking a trip to california next and because of them know good places to eat all over each city i plan to visit there. they even list vegetarian friendly restaurants or vegan friendly restaurants where if they serve meat, they also serve good stuff that is probably more trustworthy where a vegetarian and vegan are concerned. if all else fails, cook for yourself on the nights they go to mcdonald's. http://www.vegweb.com is a great resource for recipes and if you click on "recipes by category," you can find them according to exactly what you want. :)

No. Why would they? They target a specific population of offer them the products that will sell. McDonalds sells plenty of burgers here in the US and they see what a flop the BK Veggie was, so why would they want to change anything? Yes, the BK Veggie Burger is still available, but I can't even remotely imagine it's for anything other than good PR.

I don't describe myself as a healthy eater at all even though I'm vegan, but even if McDonald's had vegan choices, I still wouldn't buy from them. McDonald's is a joke and it's disgusting. It's like feeding yourself garbage that's been fried up and in the shape of food. My advice to you is just to try and convince your parents not to go there. No one should ever eat there. Be glad nothing there is vegetarian so you're not tempted to feed yourself crap.

Oh, and also, the fries at McDonald's have beef extract on them.

McDonalds isn't really "vegetarian friendly." But I do think Burger King has a veggie burger meal. It's a boca burger. It's just fried in the same grease as the real burgers. Eww.

I'm sure you can order it that way.....they have the fruit parfait...you can eat that if you are a vegetarian....I don't think you can if you are a vegan however, because of the yogurt which is made from cow's milk. They have the side salad which has just lettuce tomatoes and carrots on it and they have the fruit and walnut salad, which has apples, grapes and walnuts in it.....so yeah if you had to eat there you could.

Well if you think about it McDonald's is first and foremost a burger joint....so vegetables are not their first priority. And McDonald's is thinking about profit. It would make no sense at all for McDonald's to make a menu that pertains to only 4% of the population..........how are they going to make the mega bucks and keep up with thier main customers which is meat eaters if they are focusing on 4% of the population who doesn't eat meat/animal products period, which includes cheese, eggs, yogurt, milk shakes...you get the point.

Further more if you are that concerned about your diet and what you are putting in your body...why on God's green earth would you be eating at a burger joint in the first place.
I would be eating organic or at least as fresh and organic as I could......not preservative loaded junk food.

You are not making much sense with your arguement.

mcdonald's does serve a garden salad but it is kind of boring. you can always order french fries. they have good pancakes in the am. egg mcmuffin less than canadian bacon. our mcdonald's will make a wrap for you with extra lettuce, tomato and ranch dressing, cheese / no chicken. maybe you can talk them into going to wendy's where you can get a baked potatoe / various toppings. or you can just add the chili sauce/salsa to it. the salads are better at wendy's than mcdonald's.
