I am a 15 year old girl who became a lacto-ovo vegetarian a year ago. And, I've decided I want to go vegan. But, my parents already get annoyed with me being a vegetarian, and I know they'll get even more annoyed if I become a vegan.

So, should I go vegan now, secretly, or wait until I turn 18 when I am by myself in college?

I've seen how animals are treated for dairy end eggs, and I think it's just as bad as for meat!

There are numerous benefits. I would suggest you try it out for awhile and see how it goes. Your parents may not even notice. If it becomes too much of a harship you can compromise occasionally. Don't get too bogged down in the semantics of what to call yourself, just do what you think is right.

If you can afford it, buy some soy milk (or other plant milk) and keep it in the fridge at home. If there are vegan foods you can buy, get those. Use it as much as possible and eat as little dairy and eggs as possible. Try to fly under the radar while working towards being vegan--but, you know, your parents will find out eventually, such as when you visit them between semesters, when you take trips to see them, etc. No matter when you go vegan, they're going to find out.

So try talking to your parents and see why they are annoyed at your vegetarianism and try to allay their fears about your being vegan.

GO VEGAN NOW! Forget about what your parents might think. They might not be happy but they can never do anything worse. Tell them straight what you want to be and be proud! I'm a vegetarian and ALL of my friends (Until now that is) are meat eaters and such. Yet they never make fun of me and go out of their way to make sure that I get something without meat to eat. You will find nice people I am sure. Do it now! Don't postpone!

Just do it. At your age, you might have to slip up when prompted, but the less meat you eat the better. Just remember, If you eat something with milk in it once compared to your family's 10 times, that's still 9 times you are saving something. Every little bit helps.

i think you should wait.... i mean if its what you believe in and its really important to you just discuss it with your parents.... maybe being a vegitarian is a good enough comprimise just for now.

I did the vegan thing and the whole nine yards - trust me - don't do it. The brain requires protiens that are only present in red meat and chicken. Without them your cognitive abilities will suffer. Trust me please. I had so much trouble because of my diet. Now I eat meat and I am in great shape.

idont see what the problem with eating meat is.
imean there already dead when you buy it,
why let it go to waster when theyre
starving kids in africa :)
but i wouldnt wait if its something you feel strongly about,
then you wouldnt want to wait another 3 years.
