WAY tacky. It's tacky to even expect gifts. They aren't traditional for a "bon voyage" party. It IS traditional, however, for the host of the party to provide a small gift (favor) for all his/her guests....perhaps a small framed photo of the honoree(s)...or himself if he is the one leaving. It's also nice to have everyone bring photos of themselves to make up an album for the person who is leaving.

Seriously, setting up a money tree is like you are asking your friends to finance your vacation/trip.

Here is a website that gives you theme suggestions for a bon voyage party http://www.shindigz.com/partytipz.cfm?caid=54985&AID=8766504&PID=534072

I agree with sonnyboy. Gifts are not given at this type of party. You certainly don't have a money tree. Why don't you just pass around a collection plate, if you are going to ask your guests to help pay for your cruise? This is in extremely poor taste.

I digress - - - - Yes - - - who doesn't like cash - - - it would be amusing if the cash was in the currency of the destination... But heck yea go for the Money Tree.

(and yes small favors are more 'appropriate' and somewhat appreciated - -- - how many pens and magic light magnifiers does one need)
