When I hear this time and time again, I feel so much frustration and anger because these people are incapable of understand anything. I gave up arguing the facts; letting them know about lentils, beans, nuts, etc.... Because it goes in one ear and right out the other.

Next time I hear this, and I don't care who says it, I want to take my right hand and backhand the person as hard and as fast as a I can...making sure my ring finger is exposed and dents their skull. I am so sick of these people trying to change me.

I'm not trying to change anyone either. I keep this stuff to myself. Its just when they ask stupid questions like this, which makes my blood boil.

yeah and i'm also getting tired of being called a murderer everytime i have a ham sandwich or eat an egg for crying out loud. i have several friends who are vegans and i don't push anything on them but they are always harassing me about it trying to get me to stop eating what i like. and HELLO PLANTS ARE ALIVE TOO!!! it's the same thing they're just easier to catch. and if all vegetarians love animals so much then why do you eat products that promote deforestation. what do think it does to the animals when they clear cut millions of acres of woodland for vegetable farming? and yes you do get protien from nuts and certain beans and vegetables but it isn't the same amount that you get from meat. im really not trying to judge you or anyone else (what you do or don't do is up to you), i'm just wondering why are vegetarians always trying to push thier way of thinking on the rest of us!

I don't hear it too much because I don't offer the information up that I am vegetarian. If I am asked about my diet, then I tell. If I get the protein question I calmly explain that I get plenty through the soy, beans, milk, and eggs that I eat.

Yep. And then you can ask them if they've ever heard of a case of protein deficiency in an industrialized nation. I forget the name of the illness, but I will have to look it up so I can use it the next time someone on Yahoo!Answers wastes 10 points to ask this.

So protein deficiency, no, but everyone has heard of heart disease, stroke, cancer, and diabetes--diseases of affluence caused or exacerbated by eating diets rich in meat.

Thank you and goodnight.

Why let such a small thing bother you so? I was once clueless too, believing that protein HAD to come from meat-its how most people are brought up, mostly due to brainwashing from the meat industry. I dont let a small thing like other peoples ignorance bother me in the least, let alone make my blood boil. As long as I know the facts about how and what to feed my body and my child, then I could give a toss what anyone else knows or thinks. No need to explain to them-if they ask what about protein, simply say, Mother nature provides many sources of protein, most of which don't require an animal to die to obtain it. Better yet, only discuss your diet with anyone who is willing to pay your grocery bill and sign your mortgage payment-thats my philosophy, and the rest of the world can bugger off. Its not worth wasting my energy and breath on someone who has no desire to HEAR the answer to the questions they ask. Just remember, you were once likely cluesless to the facts too. Just because YOU took the time to educate yourself, doesnt mean the rest of the world should automatically know it too. I was close to 40 years old before I learned the facts, and then only by accident, not by choice. Chill out, embrace YOUR lifestyle, and dont concern yourself with how or what others believe or consume-its a total waste of time and energy.

Believe me, I know exactly how you feel, I barley know anyone who's a vegetarian like me, and so many people like to comment on how they don't know how I get protein. It gets so irritating after explaining it for the thousandth time. They don't seem to get that we can live just fine without meat as our protein source and that nuts, lintels, beans, etc. are just as good.

Yes, I get tired of that question too. It just shows how brainwashed the public has become through media to believe the only source of protein is meat and other animal products.

It is just proof positive of the ignorance level in our society. If they choose to live a life of ignorance because they could not be bothered with paying attention in health class, then I am certainly not going to waste my time or life explaining something as simple as soy to them.

Evolve, people. Evolve.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I have a couple friends who are. The thing is, I'm an animal lover and I hear it all the time about what a hypocrit I am for eating meat.

Have fun. Enjoy life and don't let ignorance ruin your day!

I've been hearing it for over 20 years now & it does get tiring, fortunately I don't keep hearing it from the *same* ppl repeatedly b/c anyone who knows me can see for themselves that I get ample protein.
Sometimes I ask them where they suppose the big, muscular cattle they eat get *their* protein.

Yes, sometimes that question drives me crazy too! Just tell them that you probably get more protein than them because you eat a more well-balanced diet and leave it at that!
