a potsticker is a type of dumpling. there are many kinds of dumplings, but basically, they are dough w/ a filling & they come in many shapes & cultures.....

A dumpling is just dough either round or square -shaped. Potstickers are filled with meat and on the sticky side. Dumplings are wet and cooked with chicken.

Potstickers are fried dumplings - the stick to the bottom of the pot, hence potstickers

Just to clarify something mentioned in the first answer, potstickers are pan-fried (not deep fried) dumplings. Hence the name.

well nothing really
but dumplings also can be flat thick noodles - chicken and dumplings. it's a food that can mean different things.
but they can be stuffed the same way as potstickers too
i get steamed and/or fried dumplings from my local chinese resturant, they have pot stickers which are filled/shaped differently

1. Dumpling: ball of dough par boiled in soup or stew.
2. Pot sticker: minced meat and/or vegetables wrapped in a circle of dough like a won ton wrapper, steamed, then browned on the bottom. Eaten as is with hot chile sauce and Asian rice vinegar dressing.

I think Dumplings are a biscuit dough on to op of a goulash type dish

Basically they are the same item. It how you cook them that is the difference. The pot sticker you fry and the dumpling you boil.

i dont know why people call just little flour balls dumplings..but i grew up to know that dumplings have stufff inside them liek chiken u noe how u order dumplings in a chinese restaurant and pot stickers are the same just a more..english name?? lol
