Most peppers have a good flavor as well as heat and if not overused are a nice addition to dishes...also, the sweating from eating hot food ultimately cools you off in a hot climate...

The peppers pose no real danger to the digestive track. People have always found hot spicy foods attractive there is no real explanation other than we find the heat enhances the taste of food.

you build a tolerance to the heat if you eat hot stuff often. i'm not saying i can handle the habanero on it's own but mixed in bits with my food it's fine. you just get used to the heat. a jalapeno, for instance, is no longer at all hot to me. same goes for most hot sauce. and i don't think any of them are dangerous to the digestive system.

First the flavor is good. Different peppers taste different. Habaneros taste like apricots to me. Next they are addictive. I was one of the first subscribers to chili pepper magazine and have been a chili head for a long time. They make me feel good and I actually enjoy the sensations. They are also good for you. Lots of vitamin C and can reduce blood pressure and have shown some benefit for respiratory problems.

Apparently Assam's NAGA JALOKIA is now the world's hottest chili pepper.
Eating hot chilies releases "endorphins" that make you feel good, it's a natural high & can be addictive in a good way.
People who eat ridiculously hot chilies are used to it, they have been eating them regularly and their digestive systems are used to it although I think they have fried their tastebuds!

I had also heard that the Mexican "pepper pot" used the hottest peppers because of rank meat.
the pain is too great for me but I agree the flavor is good.

They aren't dangerous for people that grow up eating them. And, the reason people eat them is the taste. I can't tolerate the hottest ones, but I do love the taste of Jalapenos!

They are not dangerous, otherwise no-one would eat them!!
I think people who grow up with them are able to handle them better, but some people are more sensitive.
Apart from taste it makes you sweat, using up calories and removing toxins from the body!

my uncle is west indian, I asked once why they ate stuff which was hot and fiery, he said it was from "olden" days when they had no fridges etc., it helped preserve food, and if the food was a bit off tasting they used the fieryness of the chillies to cover up the taste of NOT so fresh food................true or not I am not sure.?
