No, it only means that heart is unable a provide blood to body because it has gone weak. It can be treated.
I hope the concept is clear in medical terms. It is also known as congestive heart failure (CCF). OK
In third world countries it means death to a layman.

There are 2 types of heart failure. Depends on which part is failing, but with treatment neither have to be lethal. Going without treatment one can lead to another and then they may die. Right sided failure means the right side is not keeping up with pumping blood and it begins to pool in the area it's coming from (legs feet), or left in the lungs, causing pulmonary edema (water in the lungs. People live happy and near normal lives with medications. There are times when they can have sudden shortness of breath and a rapid build up fluid in the lungs. This is a true emergency and they need to get to an ER NOW! Call 911, we can begin treatment before we even leave the house. Hope this helps!

No it does not. Many people go on living productive lives with heart failure. What is meant by heart failure is usually failure of the right ventricle. The muscle tissue can become stretched and weakened over the years and now is no longer able to pump blood through the lungs and into the left atrium efficiently. This can tend to cause the blood to back up and fluid to leak into the lung tissue causing what is called Pulmonary Edema. Medications and a proper diet can keep the person from having problems associated with heart failure but its not a cure.

Not at all!
Congestive Heart Failure patients (CHF) often have a complete recovery; they may require oxygen at sea level however often they're just fine. Many CHF patients still have the energy to travel and work out.

Even with treatment, CHF is a serious disease. It usually means a somewhat shortened lifespan (although death is not imminent). However, with a combination of medicines, a better diet, and lessened physical activity, symptoms can be reduced. Proper treatment can allow you to resume a relatively normal life.
