the needles length depends on the clinic, they all use differing lengths, I personally use one inch needles, but it varies, whether or not it hurts is pretty much up to you, yes, you. If you relax and think about something else and the nurse is good at what she does, you might not even feel it. But it won't hurt any more than any other shot. There are not usually any side effects. Some people, very few, are allergic to the base the vaccine is made in (eggs), but other than that, no problems with side effects have been reported. Just be a big girl and do what is right.

The needle is no different than any other inoculation needle. I have heard that there can be tenderness or a burning sensation the day of the injection...but is gone withing the same day or by the next. You should check out the website to find out what all of the side effects might be. Also, keep in mind that this vaccination will help protect against most types of the viruses that cause cervical cancer but not all....therefore you should continue to practice safe sex....condoms...condoms...condoms.
Here is a link to Gardasil's website...scroll to the bottom of the page and click on frequently asked questions...if that is not enough info for you to make your decision, talk to your doctor.

I got mine today and it didn't sting a bit. So far I have had no side effects but as for how long the needle was, I don't know. I can't bare to look and needles, I couldnt care less that it was going to be poked into me but I just can't look.

i doubt it's longer than any other needle...or hurts worse than any other shot...but either way, it is so worth it. listen, please, i am a 27 year old woman, and i have hpv, and i would take whatever needle it took to have a cure for it. some strains of hpv are *incurable* and i have one of them. it's not going to kill me but it's something i will have for the rest of my life and i am ashamed of it. no matter what, *PLEASE* get the shot, it is so worth it!!
