my brother was just admitted into the hospital because he was having chest pains and his blood pressure was going up and down and then back up and then back down. (really quickly, within a matter of minutes). The doctors will not tell us anything. So what would the blood pressure rising and then falling be from?

Everyone's blood pressures rise and fall continuously, - exactly as your hands on the driving wheel never stay still, -even if you're driving along a 500-mile straight road in Nevada. That's how the system works and is called "hunting".

In your brother's case, you don't say how much they rise and fall. -If it's excessive, then of course the doctors will be concerned and will need time to find out the cause, so won't be able to tell you much at this stage. It may simply be distress about the unknown cause of his chest pains that is causing his pressures to rise and fall. -Blood pressures respond to stress, both physical and mental.

Be patient, -there's nothing you can do to assist yet and as soon as they find what (if any) is the problem, they'll discuss it with you. It may take some complex testing, and you wouldn't want to be misled at this stage, I'm sure.
Then again, it may be something quite simple, easily put right, and not even a problem.

But do bear in mind that if his B/P's DIDN'T go up and down, continuously, then he'd be in trouble, and different from every other human being alive.

Hope this helps. -good wishes.

actually it is normal for the blood pressure to change from minute to minute, it is the body's attempt to maintain adequate oxygenation of the brain on a moment to moment basis. A problem would occur if it went up and stayed up, or dropped and stayed low.
It is supposed to change.

one way to lower it is to stay away from too much salt, salt is one of the main things that makes your blood pressure go up to a dangerously high number which can make you have a heart attack or stroke

i think that your brother either have what is called labile hyper tension and this occurs at the beginning of hyper tensive disorder or there is adrenal disorder called pheochromocytoma (benign tumor) that cause up and down hypertension
