There are different flavors of meat, depending upon the animal used. Spices and different cooking methods and different recipes also come to play. This is like asking what vegetables taste like. So many different kinds, different cooking methods, spices, recipes, etc, so the flavors are all different. It's hard to describe the flavor of anything when you've never had it. But I will agree, the soy burgers and chikken nuggets taste pretty close to the real thing. Soy sausage does not, I won't lie. But any soy fake meat product will be far less greasy than meat, that's for sure. I have a Muslim friend who had never tasted pork. One day she was out with her ex b/f and ordered clam chowder. She was eating, and noticed something she'd never tasted before, but hated the flavor of. She pulled it out of her mouth and saw that it was bacon. She thought, yuck! How can people like this? Would meat taste good to you since you've never had it (I assume)? I don't know, but as someone pointed out, the smell of cooked meat is pretty close to the real thing. Why do I still see someone asking if your religion forbids meat? People, vegetarianism is more often a lifestyle choice, and not necessarily part of any religion.

i'm not a vegetarian, but i'm not the biggest meat eater either. i personally don't like meat, but when properly cooked, it tastes great. i love the greens, but once in a while we all need some meat. if you eat meat that's properly cooked, you will be surprised how good it is. i'm not talking restaraunt food. just food that's prepared correctly, from the cleaning process to the combining phase. if you get a piece of meat and clean it throughtly, removing all the fat, muscle, bone. then marinate it, then grill it, finishing it off with a plate of your favorate salad, it's great. if i was you, i would give it a chance. my philosophy is that vegetarians refuse to eat meat, because they haven't yet faced a real cooked piece of meat.

Well I used to love meat, til I became vegetarian. And a few weeks ago, I accidentally ate some bacon that was in a "bean" breakfast taco I had at camp. (There was no bacon in it the three mornings before, and they added some the fourth morning.) And, well, I didn't remember what meat tasted like before then, and that bacon made me want to gag.
One- the taste
Two- where it came from
Three- how it became bacon

You know that parents literally have to force feed it to babies when "the time is right" or they're old enough for it? They mix it with fruit to trick them into swallowing it. How evil?
If meat tasted good, we wouldn't have rubs and marinades, would we?

I always knew that steak was not healthy, but the smell of it (probably the seasoning put on it) was intoxicating! Taking a bite instantly told me that I was tasting herbs, spices, sauces, etc, instead of the meat.
Have you ever tasted steak plain and grilled with nothing on it, not even salt?
BLAH!

A properly cooked piece of meat requires little else except some salt to taste good.
As i have never eaten or smelt rotten greasy decaying flesh I will leave that to you.

lol.....it does not taste good to me either. I have been a vegetarian all my life and got the wrong burrito one day from taco bell. I was NOT impressed with the flavor at all. It's all in what you get used to. I need to tell myself that to keep from eating so much salt.....sure would help my blood pressure!

What somebody likes to eat is purely subjective.
I think meat is gross.
Some people in Asia and Africa eat insects and worms; I'm sure they like it.
