I know guinea pigs are popular in Peru, but I haven't been able to find a Peruvian shop in the UK. Any ideas?

Edited to add: While I'm prepared to kill 'em myself if necessary, that is really a last resort!

To all the idiots who advise 'going back to peru' or suggest that eating guinea pig is 'disgusting' or whatever - don't bother answering i'm really not interested in your opinions.

i don't know where you can buy it from but i just want to say to all the people who are giving you a bad time, get a life you sad muppets. meat is meat, individual tastes are individual. when you go abroad you want your "full english" well its just the same, this guy wants his guinea pig meat and he should be allowed to have it where-ever he is.
if you do find somewhere mate, let me know, i'll chomp into one of the little buggers with you. happy eating.....

I can't find a butcher that will sell guinea pig meat, my suggestion would be a pet shop or breeder. Watch what you feed it on for a few weeks whilst fattening it up, and then kill it. I have 3 living next door, they look nice and fat.
Surprisingly, there looks to be a lot of meat on them from the photos I have seen of them cooked and on a plate with new potatoes and sliced tomatoes.
In the last war in the UK, there was no pigeons in city centres, dogs, cats, horse, donkey all ended up on the plate.
The miners strike in 1984 saw the kids rabbits disappearing. Mummy said it had run off, the kids cried until it came out the oven with roast potatoes.

Cuy or guinea-pig meat is now quite widely available in the US, particularly around the New York City area. Many of these companies are international distributors, so check out this link and google them in whatever area of the UK you are in.

Why so many folks have an issue with eating guinea-pig meat (yum!), yet are happy to kill a cow for dinner & shoes beats me!

As the UK is not in peru it's unlikely you will find Guinea pig available as a meat for human consumption, they are sold as pets and are not considered a food item over here!

Does guinea pig taste like chicken? I didn't even know people ate guinea pigs. Aren't they in the rodent family?

pet store? I dont think even a Peruvian shop in London would carry cuy. I think because they can carry certain diseases, they are not legal to be served as "food supply".

I personally would never eat cuy, I dont even eat beef or pork --- but I am not judging. To each his own, I am PRO FOOD CHOICE.

PS: could you really kill one yourself? it's not as easy as you think!

Let me guess, your recent foray into Korean cuisine has lost its appeal (or you exhausted the neighborhood supply of puppies to fry up), and now you want to dabble in Peruvian cuisine?

wow. it hardly seems worth the bother for what, about 5 bites of meat each?

you want a serious rodent? try north korea's cuisine of the future: kim jong (mentally-) il is breeding 50+-pound rabbits, which he claims will end his country's chronic food shortages.
