Loving the animals, and the environment. Not to mention health.
But aside from all those reasons (which i won't go into a lot of detail here),
we can live completely fine and healthy without eating meat, so why eat it?? No, i don't need any supplements. And many other vegetarians don't either.
A lion or tiger is different from a human.
And in response to some other people's mentioning of vegetables being alive or whatever: Anyone with even a basic knowledge of biology knows that plants and animals are very different.

I don't eat meat because I disagree with the way the animals are treated both in production, and during the slaughtering process. Humans have a conscience, we can empathise with other creatures. We have the power to make the treatment of these animals much more humane and compassionate than we do, simply because money is more important than mercy.
Animals like lions have no choice - they don't have our intelligence to develop kinder ways of eating meat. Also, they have evolved into creatures who can not survive on vegetation. Humans CAN survive very well without eating meat.
Being "top of the food chain" doesn't give us the right to be completely inconsiderate of the suffering of the animals we use for our own gain, when we have been blessed with the intelligence to both be the most powerful species, and the most merciful.
I know that humanity is never going to become completely vegetarian/vegan - not in my lifetime anyway, but I think if we insist on eating the flesh of other animals, we should, at the very least, recognise that the animals we are killing feel pain & fear & terror, and we should see it as a basic responsibility to put the humane treatment of these animals above profit.

antelopes have a chance, cows on a farm don't. Humans are scavangers, and are not made to deal with large amounts of meat. Our guts are too long and meat will decompose before it is fully digested, lions have a much shorter gut. Its funny, vegetarians do louder farts due to eating more indigestable cellulose, but non vegetarians have smellier farts because of the meat.
I think if I wasnt vegetarian I would have to eat a natural human diet with a lot of things like fish, insects, liver and very little red meat. This would be like an equivilant to a lion eating an animal. lions=carnivore, humans=omnivore.
Personally I don't think its 'bad' for you to eat meat, most of the time I forget thats what some people do :)
Oh and some people don't cause thats what it was like in eden.

Lions are made to eat meat. They don't accumulate fatty sludge in their arteries from eating meat. They don't get heart disease and cancer from eating meat. They must eat meat to live.
Humans not only damage their bodies by eating meat (meat eaters have more heart disease, diabetes, obesity, prostate cancer, colon cancer and kidney stones than vegetarians,) but they also have a choice. Unlike a lion, which is an obligate carnivore, humans can make a choice based on ethics. Lions kill prey that has lived a normal, healthy, natural life. Humans eat meat from animals that have been born and bred into disgusting, torturous conditions and then are pumped full of steroids, antibiotics and hormones just to make an extra buck. If you honestly don't think there's a difference, you're fooling yourself.

How many reasons do you want? It takes a lot of grain and land to produce a relatively small amount of meat. We could feed every hungry person on the earth if no one ate meat, because the grain and the land could be used to produce that much more food. Also animals raised for meat produce lots of methane, so much that they contribute to global warming. ( cows pass gas every couple of minutes!! people in China used to use the gas passed by their pigs to heat with and cook food with). The animals on factory farms now are treated inhumanely and suffer all of their lives, not like the old days when farm animals were valued and treated carefully. Anyone who has a heart should at least demand humane treatment for these creatures while they are alive. It is healthier not to eat meat, it has been directly linked to heart disease, high cholesteral, stroke, obesity, gout, and many other serious diseases. Finally, lions don't know any better. We, as enlightened humans, do know better. Oh yeah, and it is cheaper to not eat meat, simple food items can be combined to make complete proteins which are inexpensive, such as corn and wheat, rice and beans. healthier, cheaper, better for the planet, more humane.

The difference between a lion eating an animal and a human eating an animal is that the lion doesnt have the ability to grow crops and harvest things. Humans do.
Lions have to eat antelopes and such because thats the only resource there. I dont think meat is the only thing humans can eat.
FOR ANYONE CONSIDERING GOING VEGETARIAN OR VEGAN:
It helps to have at least one friend who is also vegetarian or vegan. All of my friends are, and it makes it easier if you're not sitting directly next to someone consuming a cow and you can smell it and such.

Well,I do not like what they do to the chickens to get meat for us humans, they put at least 9 chickens in one tiny cage, debeak them by chopping them off,put them in boiling water while there only half dead still enough to feel pain, they also make them so fat where they cannot walk, some even have heart attacks.
I do not eat red meats because they fricken slaughter the animals, which they did nothing to deserve it!If you had a pet dog,and you still ate chicken and red meats...its like saying "Why not eat my dog" ...all animals are equal and should get respect.Let them live.
I also do not eat fish because I do not like the fact some people hook them to bring them home to feed there family. They invade there territory which is water,so they can fill there tummys =[
I don't eat eggs because chickens are forced to lay so many eggs inn cruel ways.
I don't wear leather because they skin animals for it.
I don't wear pearls because it is produced from a mollusk,Pearl oyster.
I dont wear wool or silk either.
I also dont eat honey because the bees are killed by humans, when the bees are giving them honey.I saved a bee out of my pool today and it flew right passed me.

Yes, there is. Lions have a chemical linning in their digestive system designed to eat meat. They have claws and defined canine teeth because they are preditors and were meant to eat meat. Humans have a slower metabolism than lions and can not properly digest flesh. This is one of the major causes for colon cancer. Furthermore the meat market does not practice humane methods and often cows, pigs, and chickens are left to bleed to death when they are not killed by bolts through the heads or their necks being slit. Why would you want to support this kind of cruelty? Aside from moral and scientific views the bible is even against eating meat. Most peopl read Deuteronomy 14:3-18 and claim god told them to eat meat but in reality god was punishing man at the time for their disobedience and part of that punishment was the floods which ruined the vegetation. God told man that he could only eat those animals declared clean and they could not kill them but rather they could only eat what died of natural causes. This was a test of mans redemption and those who chose to cause suffering would not have their punishment lifted but would continue with the struggle while those who proved themselves would be welcome back into a life such as the garden of Eden. Christianity is but one religon that teaches that man is not meant to cause pain through eating meat. If you look at most religons ou will see they too teach of a vegetarian diet. So aside from the scientific, moral, and religous stand point let us look at the health stand point. Vegetarians are less likely to die of heart disease, colon cancer, have high blood pressure, suffer from obesity, clogged arteries, and other health problems. When it comes to food consumption more food is used to feed cattle than is produced by it. If all livestock farms switched to agricultural farms we would have a larger food supply to feed more people and would reduce famine and some of those crops could go towards fuel alternatives such as corn and soy crops which would reduce fuel emissions and encourage production in this country without relying on other countries for imported fuel which would help the economy. So to review a vegetarian diet is proven better for humans through science, health, religon, is better for the economy, and environment, and is a morally responsible decision.

Well I think it's unfair because if animals don't eat us, why should we eat them? But, that's cause I am an animal lover lol! I also don't like the way they are treated or killed in slaughterhouses. To me, there is no difference between a cow and a dog, a chicken and a cat, a ferret or a pig.
