Recently, I read that HPV can cause oral cancer. I have had oral sex with 2 different women, one who never had vaginal sex before, and the other one had vaginal sex with only one guy. I know that I am a hypochondria, but would it be a small risk for me to have gotten HPV, and for it then to cause oral cancer? Are there any HPV test for men?

There is no clinical test for HPV in men. Sorry. if you don't have outward symptoms (warts, cancers), then you will probably never truly know.

As for oral cancer, it's rare in general, and you'd only know if it was caused by HPV if the doctors chose to run some pretty expensive tests on you. Chances are, they won't bother with those tests because if you have oropharyngeal lesions resembling cancer, it doesn't matter how the cancer got there as much as it matters how to treat it fast and get it cured.

On the bright side, even though 70% of people have HPV, only a fraction of them will ever have complications from it. True, it sucks for those people who do have complications, but if it's not you, then you can count your blessings.

People can get HPV without penetrative sex. Simple dry humping (frottage) will transmit the virus. Condoms can protect against HPV, but not perfectly because they cannot cover all the skin on the genitals. Still, it's better than nothing!

If you are a hypochondriac, you will need to evaluate your own readiness for sexual activity. If being sexually active is going to make you fret over things like this, it may be wise to abstain from sex until you can accept some level of risk. Every sexually active person has to accept some risks because sexual activity can have plenty of consequences. It is up to us to take responsiblity for our own actions and protect ourselves to the best of our ability.

You could have gotten HPV of the mouth, better known as RRP, recurrent respiratory papillomatosis. If either of the woman have HPV, then yes there is a one in a billionth chance of you getting RRP. Like I said there is a very small chance. This disease is very rare. There is a one a trillionth chance of you developing cancer from it. I would be willing to bet that you won't get cancer caused by RRP. I had genital warts and I have received oral sex. I have yet to get any phone calls saying that I gave someone RRP.

Unfortunately, there is no HPV test for men. The only way to tell if a man has HPV is if he develops anal cancer, penile cancer, or warts. There is a limited ways to test in women. I hope this helps you to relax.

The first line of defense against oral cancer is your dentist.

They are two tests that can screen your oral are for precancer changes of the oral area.

ViziLite and VELscope

You can go to the Vizilite site and find a dentist that uses this test.

Recurrent Respiratory Papilloma affects the voice box or larynx and there is no screening method for the larynx. It is usually transmitted from mother to child during child birth…this is rare. There is not as much information on the transmission of adult onset RRP. For more information on RRP www.rrpf.org
