When I have a bride come in and see me about a cake I usually will find out what flavors both the bride and groom like and try to incorporate them both into he cake, seeing that is it your day. Any bakery should offer a number of flavors. Alot of the time a bride will come in and have an idea on a flavor only to change it so to try and make sure their party will be happy. Remember it is your wedding and you want the cake to taste as good as it looks. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at btchocolates@yahoo.com, you don't need to be having a wedding in the area to get advice.

I am also getting married in 3 months. Yay! It's so close!

Anyway, we decided on a three tier cake. My fiance and I LOVE chocolate, so it was important to us to have a tier be chocolate. However, we also took into consideration that many people don't like chocolate, so doing marble was out of the question. Our bottom layer (the biggest) is yellow and the middle is chocolate. Traditionally, the bride and groom save the top layer for their 1st anniversary, so we were sure to pick chocolate with chocolate fluff for that tier. We also had different choices for fillings. Yellow cake with strawberry filling is always a safe bet for the big portion of your cake. If they don't like strawberry, they can cut around it and still get yellow cake and frosting.

The other advice I have is to avoid fondant. It is the harder coating that gives the appearance of a smooth, sculpted look. Typically, it is more expensive (it was $1.50 more per slice at my baker) and, most people don't like the taste and just peel it off. Also know that it is incredibly difficult to get that smooth look, so if that is your number one priority, then by all means, it is your day, do it.

That depends on where you are getting your wedding cake. Some cake decorators do offer flavored wedding cakes - and they price them appropriately. Your best bet is to go to wherever you have decided to order your cake (better hurry!) and ask them what they offer.

If you are in any doubt at all, it is hard to go wrong with plain old vanilla or lemon flavored cake. Quite some few people are allergic to chocolate.

I attended a wedding where the cake was a Champagne or Princess cake, filled with a raspberry puree and custard filling of sorts and covered with a butter cream. Wonderful! You can usually pair different fillings with different cakes when you go in for a tasting. I'd recommend that you and your groom make the decision based upon your own personal tastes and get input from your families about theirs. When I got married, i had a fruit basket cake that was remarkable!

I'd say you couldn't go wrong with half and half. Most guests will be satisfied with this. Maybe a half chocolate/half vanilla. Or heck go crazy and choose a flavor YOU like because that's all that really matters. I'm sure if you wanted to, you could go to a cake place and test some flavors. Because in the end it's your weddding and your opinion is the only one that matters.
But yeah like a marble cake or half and half is what i'd do I guess.

Gabriela ~ It is YOUR wedding. You choose what you would like to have. (You only get married once hopefully ... do what makes you happy.) The only thing you may want to consider is that their are people who adore chocolate cake ... and those who are allergic to it. Why not have both if it is in tiers? You should be able to "taste test" at a bakery to pick one that tastes good to you and your husband-to-be! Best wishes ...

Dearie, it depends on your taste and your budget.
If you have $25,000. to spend on your wedding cake, leave it in the hands of the designer.
It also depends on the number of guest you have invited.
What flavor of cake do YOU like? If you like lemon cake, order that, or if you like chocolate cake.......whatever YOU like. Remember....this is YOUR DAY.
Now.......the groom's cake is usually a smaller cake according to what he likes.

Let's keep something in mind here.......Cakes are much like flowers.......gone, and only remembered in pictures, so whatever flavor you choose, pick a great decorator to make your cake gorgeous.

If you are planning to serve food at your reception, that will be much more memorable than a bite of cake.
