Obviously it would be hard for you to agree totally with PeTA and other rights and abolitionist organizations when it comes to this since your family raised pigs, thankyou for at least being civil in your posting.
Your description of pigs and their aggression toward people around their young is one of the precise reasons PeTA does what they does. It's heartbreaking and infuriating to think of these beings having their lives and young taken from them - and this reaction just validates "our" understanding of how they feel. You may disagree.
I've been vegan for a number of years and I'd rather hang out with my partner than a pig, yes: but the whole point of PeTA's exercise is to stop people eating meat because "we" believe it's unnecessary.
Many people have issues with PeTA - a hell of alot of vegans included. There are alot of things to get emotional about, their efforts to abolish farming is not one of them.
It's nothing personal.

They're just trying to get a point across, I've seen the same stickers with cows instead of pigs. Have you ever seen a cow kill anyone? I think all animals are equal, like humans. I would keep any animal as a pet, be it a dog or a pig.

I would have to say that yes they probably are serious, of course they are probably not thinking of the types of pigs that would be slaughtered for food but rather they type that a person would keep as a pet. PETA is a very radical organization that have brought us such moments as throwing red paint on persons wearing genuine fur coats or wearing faux fur and painting it with "blood". The real kicker is during this whole war in Iraq and with the suicide bombers PETA got wind of a bomber using a donkey to transport the bomb and decided that they needed to write a letter to the terrorists informing them of the cruelty of this action. While nine days out of ten I would not agree with the level of obsession PETA displays in their quest for making this world a better place for our animal friends I think they do their part to balance out those persons who think they were born with opposable thumbs and the power of thought reasoning they were then given the the right to kill anything in their paths just because it is there and because they can.

they're serious allright, and they're not jokers... they're brain damaged.
I'm all for treating animals humanely, but the idiocy of these PETA people knows no limits. Like the broad that answered saying she is a PETA member. Obviously she hasn't actually intelectually processed half the stuff the PETA people preach or else she would have realized that their arguments are completely devoid of logic. PETA is for little emotional rich bratty girls who just want something to emotionally feel good about and don't really want to use their brains to think logically.

Potbellied pigs make excellent pets, actually.
And it does depend on how you treat them. Sometimes it's the same as a domestic dog; they are, by nature, non-violent towards humans. However, if you abuse an animal, it will become agressive.
Pigs raised with a kind hand CAN become your 'friend'. Pigs raised for slaughter cannot. My mother had a 'pet' pig when she was in her 20s. It was a farm pig, but she raised it as she would a dog, and she was able to cuddle it and take it out for walks with no trouble whatsoever.
PETA is a bit...manic at times, yes, but their message of kindness towards animals of ALL kinds is not to be laughed at because of some of their antics.

Well I agree with the "Pigs are Friends, Not Food" slogan, the "I Am Not a Nugget", etc...I agree with it because if I wouldn't eat my dog, which is my friend, then why would I eat a pig? Same with my cat and a chicken. I see all animals as being equal to one another. And since I've been to my aunt's ranch and she has pigs that are really nice, and they follow you just like dogs.
But...since I'm a big animal lover, lol that's why I agree with it.
But, I respect my friend's decisions to eat meat, and they respect mine not to eat meat. =)(=

I am thinking they are pushing for the anti food situation on anything just to get what they can in regards to getting someone to stop eating meat.
I do feel sorry for them. I knew someone who worked for a pork industry and he had to quite. The way the kill the pigs are terrible.

No.
Yes, it's probably a fact that a hog would eat us if they ever had a chance.
But still! I bet you wouldn't want to be aten would you?
This is JUST my opinion, but seariosly[???]! We should treat animals the way we would liked to be treated... Which mean NOT eating each other!

It is simply a statement since you don't eat your friends. To demote the use of slaughterhouses and promote the 'vegan diet.' I don't believe that PETA means that you have to become friends with a pig, just enough to say that you value them.
"We believes that animals are capable of suffering and have an interest in leading their own lives; therefore, they are not ours to use — for food, clothing, entertainment, experimentation, or any other reason." By Wikipedia.

I guess it would depend on what kind of pig. A Vietnamese potbellied pig might be a friend...but when I lived in the Ozarks we had some hogs around that were anything but friendly.
