Stents are supposed to kind of open up your arteries to allow for more blood flow. Also, with the bigger, more opened arteries (due to the stents), existing clots are now free to pass away and new clots are less likely to form.

As for how long before it builds up again, well that depends on your habits. It depends alot on your diet and exercise.

If you eat foods high in cholesterol, the cholesterol clogs your arteries, so alot will speed up a clot. I'm sure that any fatty foods won't help either. So you have to cut cholesterol. There's also medicine to help with that, but diet is important.

Also, when you exercise (cardio) your heart beats faster/harder and it pumps blood through your arteries faster (or gets it moving). That movement is what you need because if the blood moves, it keeps you from getting blood clots (or helps anyway). If you don't exercise, then you have blood moving slower and that is more likely to cause blood clots. (Just keep in mind that doesn't mean run a marathon. It means get your heart pumping. If your heart is bad or weak, then just walking or light excersise is enough to really get it going alot. Keep up with your heart rate. Don't overdo it! Do whatever you can but regularly)

Stints help and can definitely save your life. But those rules of diet and exercise apply to everyone, weather you have stints or not. Not everyone gets blood clots, so it's not like you have to. The healthier you are (the better you diet and exercise) the less likely you will have a blood clot and vice versa.

Stents help by removal of clots &estblishing patency of coronary vessels but stents alone cant prevent reblokade. For that life style changes ,exercise ,quitting smoking ,Walking briskly for 45 mts /day
changing diet to healthy high fibre ,low fat ,high in antioxidents all are must.
