Yes, they CAN, but it would not be a good idea. Pneumonia is still one of the leading causes of death in the U.S. of A. for both males and females.
There is no cure for pneumonia; only treatments to alleviate the misery and suffering.
So, stay out of the water.

I think most damaging part is coming out of the pool, when the wind will hit the sick & wet person. If that can be prevented and specially if the pool is indoor, it may be allowed. Why one can't wait a few days is beyond me.
