I was tested yesterday for HPV. I have good reason to belief that I possibly have it. My boyfriend is now wondering what will happen to him if he was given the disease by me?

HPV can cause genital warts for males and it can RARELY cause penile and anal cancer. Both of those cancers are VERY rare. It's estimated 1,000 men WORLDWIDE are diagnosed every year with penile cancer, while about 10,000 women in the US alone are diagnosed with cervical cancer every year.

To males It doesn't do anything. It's rare for them to get penile cancer. If he has HPV strands that cause Genital warts then that's the only way he can be diagnosed with HPV.
If he has it you most likely will have it as well, but it doesn't mean that you will get warts. Some people have HPV and don't show any symptoms.
All you can do now is go to your doctor and let him/her know your boyfriend was diagnosed with HPV and you want to know if you have it. Most providers will want a to do a biopsy to collect some skin (since it's a skin virus) to send to the lab. Then they will know what strands you have.

Just know that HPV types 6 and 11 (cause genital warts) are low risk and only cause genital warts. Genital warts are treated/removed and only 25% of people will have a re-occurance. The virus is like any virus...chicken pox, flu...your immune system surpresses it and in 6months-2years your immune system will clear it out. Yet there is no medical fact that proves when HPV is clears.

All you can do is be healthy, excercise, don't smoke or drink excessively, and don't have sex when he has an active wart present.

More than half of men who are sexually active in the United States will have HPV at some time in their life. Often, a man will clear the virus on his own, with no health problems.

It can increase a man's risk of getting genital cancers, although these cancers are not common. HPV can also cause genital warts in men, just as in women.

Genital human papillomavirus (HPV) is a sexually transmitted virus. There are more than 30 types of genital HPV that can infect the genital area of men, including the skin on and around the penis or anus.

Most men who get genital HPV do not have any symptoms. However, some types of HPV can cause genital warts. Genital warts are single or multiple growths that appear in the genital area. They may be raised, flat, or cauliflower shaped.

In men, genital warts may appear around the anus or on the penis, scrotum (testicles), groin or thighs. Even men who have never had anal sex can get warts around the anus. Warts may appear within weeks or months after sexual contact with an infected person, or not at all. A person can have the type of HPV that causes genital warts, but never develop any warts.

Genital HPV is passed on through genital contact –such as vaginal and anal sex. Both men and women can get HPV – and pass it on - without even realizing it. Genital warts can also be passed on by a person who has HPV but no visible warts. Since the virus can be “silent” for a long time, people can have genital HPV even if years have passed since they have had sex.

Depends on the strain of HPV. If you've got the strain that causes cervical cancer... nothing will really happen to him. I think his chances for prostate cancer may be higher but I'm not 100% on that. If you've got the strain that causes the warts, then he'll be getting the warts too.

Men usually don't have any signs of being HPV carriers. Is they have any symptoms at all, it's very similar to that of genital warts. But, again, it is very rare for males to exhibit any symptoms of the virus.

90% of all anal cancers are HPV related. Anal cancer is fairly rare. It's incidence in the general population is less than 1 per 100 000 people and is 1/10 the current rate of cervical cancer. HOWEVER, when analyzing the data for specific populations, more startling numbers come into play. In a paper published in the New England Journal of Medicine, it was estimated that incidence of anal cancer among HIV negative men who engage in receptive anal intercourse with other men was up to 35 per 100 000 people ---- a rate on par with the incidence of cervical cancer before routine Pap smears were initiated in the 1940s.

Even more troubling is the incidence rate of among HIV positive men who have sex with men. During the late 1980s the incidence of anal cancer among gay men with AIDS was reported to be twice that of men the same age, race, and sexual orientation in the years before AIDS ---- In other words the incidence of anal cancer may be more than 70 per 100 000 HIV infected men who have a history of receptive anal intercourse with other men. Other studies using different methodolgies also came to similar numbers.

HIV positive women also are adversely affected by HPV and anal cancer.

The time has come for routine anal Pap tests for men who have sex with men. We did it for women when the incidence rate was LOWER than it is for men who have sex with men, so it is time for it to occur for gay men!!!!!!

So, HPV related anal cancer is definitely still a concern for men, especially if you engage in receptive anal intercourse, or are HIV positive.

that would be rare that a man would have the HPV unless they are gay..seriously. unless its the HPV that causes cervical cancer, for sure men cannot get that.
