rbc's are produced constantly in your system, but not at the rate it takes to replace a unit of blood in a day. I think the time between donations is actually only 8 weeks.

The life span of the RBCs are 120 days in circulation. There is always destruction of the RBCs by the spleen and production of new RBCs by the bone marrow. But we do not know when the old RBcs die. so it is better to donate blood every 120 days than 90 days.

The average life span of RBC is 120 days...after 120 days the old RBCs will die and new RBCs will synthesize by ur body....so u need another 120days (3months) to produce or compensate for the loss due to blood donation.

The normal interval is eight weeks, and that is to allow your blood cell count to build to a safe level, plus a safety margin.

Donating more often could affect your resistance to illness and could result in a form of anemia.
