I can see some education is really required here. You cannot catch syphilis from anything your friend touches! Syphilis can only be caught via direct contact with an open sore. Since the sores typically occur on the external genitals, vagina, anus, or in the rectum, you would have to have sexual contact with your friend. Please note that sores also can occur on the lips and in the mouth, in which case, you would have to kiss her or have oral sex with her.
Now read this closely: you cannot get syphilis through contact with toilet seats, doorknobs, swimming pools, hot tubs, bathtubs, shared clothing, or eating utensils.
Now, as for your friend...instead of "guessing" whether or not she has syphilis, she should be seeing a doctor. Diagnosis is made via seeing the sore(s) and a blood test.
The symptoms in syphilis occur in phases. I only put phase one here. You will usually see a single sore (called a chancre), but there may be multiple sores. The first symptom usually appears 10 to 90 days (average 21 days) after infection.
The sore is usually firm, round, small, and painless and will appear where syphilis entered the body. The sore will last 3 to 6 weeks and will heal without treatment. But, the infection will progress to the second stage without medical intervention.

You have to be in contact with her bodily fluids not just TP in her bathroom. If she does have it and you really are her friend then you'd insist that she see a doctor immediately to get shots to cure it. If Syphilis is left untreated the symptoms go away but the virus still travels the bodies system until it rests in the spinal fluid and you evenually go insane and die. I believe it's called terciairy syphilis (not sure on the spelling)
Al Capone died from untreated syphilis. It's very dangerous.

Don't be so concerned about catching it from something in the bathroom. Typically, exposure comes from bodily fluids. The best thing to do is get your friend to a doctor and get a real answer.

How the hell are you gonna catch it unless you have sex with her? Tell her to go get tested stupid! Quit being stupid. Some friend you are. She is going through a potentially rough period and you are talking about not being her friend no more because of something like this. Oh ye that is uninformed.

Syphilis can only be contracted through exchange of bodily fluids. Tell this woman to go get tested and treated if necessary immediately if not sooner.

That is not how you catch it. Syphilis can be deadly if not treated. Have her get the test done as soon as possible.

You can only get Syphillis from unprotected sex. if she has it she may have some really funky smelling discharge and it may be funky. She needs to go and get tested a shot is all that she needs and some condoms left untreated Syphillis can really mess her up and people have died from that, and it is ignorant to be afraid to be her friend just because she has a STD, if you have sex with her and then have sex with your husband is the only way that he gets it. I suggest going to www.webmd.com to get informed.

It's pretty contagious I think but only if you touch mucus membranes. Like don't share her toothbrush or anything like that. She needs to go a doctor!
