Ooo, there's tons! I've been having a look in a similar area and there's things like 'waste awareness officers', 'conservation officer', 'energy consultant', 'home energy consultants', 'wildlife protection officers' and tons more. I use the site below for my green job hunt...
I definitely don't agree that you can't make a living working in the environmental sector. It's an absolutely booming area and there are tons of jobs out there with very good pay packages. You may have to spend a couple of years working your way up but you can earn a living and have the dream job very easily!

Low tech green jobs...
Recycle trash like cans, plastic bottles.
Recycle used batteries
Organic farmer
Teach people how to be green.
High tech green jobs...
Install solar panels on roofs
Install low-flow toilets

There is always room for people who are smart, motivated, and can organize and coordinate activities.
Find a starting place, perhaps volunteer so that you can learn more about how you might leverage your smarts to lead an organization.
