Me and my friend are vegetarians and my friend's dad's girlfriend and her daughter are trying to convince her not to and saying stuff that isn't true like she will get fat and stuff. Have any of yall gone through stuff like this?

Yeah, many old-fashioned people don't understand the vegetarian diet. I'd suggest you look up some accurate information from USDA or ask your doctor about the health effects, and give this information to them.

The only way you would get fat from being a vegetarian is if you replace meat with high fat junk food.

My parents said the same things to me when I became a vegetarian. People who tell would-be vegetarians things like that are ignorant.

All the time but I just ignore it and stick to the facts and research that I do myself. From my experience I lost 20 lbs my first year and leveled out after that. Five years later I am happy, healthy (verified by my doctor), and feel great about the decision I made. Here are some helpful web-sites that clarify the claims that vegetarians don't get enough B12, Iron, protien, and calcium.

What is wrong with them. Get fat? NOT! Don't they know it is a healthy diet? Especially for your colon. Tell them to stop being jealous and relax. Let's see who gets fat in a few years!

Yeah, my dad eats steak and practically prays to it... I don't get people like that. They tell you not to go preaching your thoughts to them, but their the ones preaching their thoughts to you. If anything, I think they should just shut up before I punch them in the face..... in case you didn't notice, I'm getting tired of that kind of stuff.

Yeah, my mom gave me all kinds of crap about it. She was a nurse, and I always made sure I had good information so I could argue with her. She finally gave up, but it took years.

Show them this website from the American Dietetic Association:

Yup...ignore it is all I have to say. Of course people will try to change your mind, they want to see how dedicated you are to being a vegetarian, and your beliefs on it. Just ignore them! Tell them you respect their decision to eat meat, and that they should respect yours to not eat meat! :-D

yes because there are some people that dont understand. or are to ignorant to try and understand will stay stuff like that because they know that they will never have the will power to do it. so they prefer to put people down.
