I have a cat that I am considering taking on an 8 day camping trip. I have a large metal cat kennel already. I just hate the thought of leaving him behind

I'm a cat owner and I just got back from Yellowstone with my folks. We camped in a fifth wheel with a slide-out . . . so it's basically a small cottage. They always take their cat and it's visably miserable . . . and it had diarrhea the whole time. Plus they lost it for about 2 hours when they lost track of it for 10 seconds. Cats are stealthy and curious. Not a good combination for a camping partner. Bottom line . . . you will be miserable watching the cat 24/7 and the cat will be miserable. We always leave our cat at home and have the neighbor come over 2 times a day to feed her and hang out with her for awhile. Do yourself and your cat a favor and leave it home.

I have a cat and I've never taken it camping but I thought this was an interesting question. I used to work with this crazy cat lady... Seriously... She had like 12 cats and used to take them camping every year.... All of them! She even has her own website with a page dedicated to camping with her cats... Like I said, crazy... But at least I know you can bring them camping. Here's a link to the site. You may be able to get a few tips and it's definitely good for a laugh.

No, I haven't, because I love my cat. What an awful thing to do to the poor thing! Most cats hate traveling, being stuck in that crate, and dealing with the stress of a new place. Factor in the possibility of losing your cat or having it getting eaten by a hawk or coyote or something... I'd recommend leaving the cat home or with the neighbors. Have fun!

No I could never imagine taking my cat camping. She hates the 10 minute drive to the vets office, so I could just imagine 1-3 hours with her yowling. She's the type that takes care of herself. I leave her home and my brother feeds her, makes sure she's in at night. She gets to go in and out of the house while we're gone. Someone is always here at the house while we are gone. I suggest having someone take care of the cat while you are gone.

Well years ago I would take my cat out backpacking I had a piece of carpet on top of my pack that the cat would ride on. we were quite the talk of the trail and the cat loved it.

No but that sounds funny. What if he gets eaten by wild animals.
