Recently I have been witness to a number of answers in the Vegetarian/Vegan category stating that there is scientific proof that a vegetarian diet is nutritionally lacking. I myself am a vegetarian and, after exhaustive research, have come to the conclusion that a thoughtful, healthy vegetarian diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains is not only nutritionally complete, but actually more healthful than a diet rich in meat. I am, however, interested in this "evidence" as well as its scientific validity. Please don't waste my time with answers such as "meat is good", "god made animals so we could eat them", etc. If you have real, solid evidence, please enlighten me with it.

I am well aware that there are no legitimate answers to this question, I merely asked it to make a point. If I need to spell it out for you, please, go shoot yourself for your foolishness.

Personally I have not seen any Over whelming evidence that meat is good for you. There are a lot of people on this forum who bag vegan/vegetarian diet. They make these silly statements that we have have to eat meat and that is an essential protein - it actually isn't. The ex evegetarians who state the vegetarian diet made them sick - and there are a few and they say they went to the doctor and was advised to eat meat . If you read what they say they lived on candy, bread, crisp sandwiches and sweet coffee. THey did not not have a balanced diet but ate a variety of rubbish and often skipped meals.

Being vegan is healthier, than any other diet possible and that isn't even touch the hormones and antibiotics, used in raising animals, and the possibilities and realities of meat borne illness, Mad Cow Disease etc. .

Better for your heart. Proven to reduce heart disease, and even reverse coronary heart disease.

Automatically lower s your cholesterol levels. The only foods that contain cholesterol are animal products, like meat and dairy. And since a three-decade-long study found that not a single subject with a cholesterol level below 150 has ever developed heart disease, that's hard to ignore!

Vegans have lower rates of obesity, coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, large bowel disorders, cancers and gallstones.

Reduces stroke risks and coronary artery disease.

Reduces symptoms of fibromyalgia.

Reduces food poisoning. 95% of food poisoning is linked to animal products.

Your bowels will work much better, therefore, keeping your whole system healthier.

Live longer healthier lives. One 21-year-long study that compared meat-eaters and vegetarians showed that the greater the meat consumption, the greater the death rate from all causes combined.

Increased vegetable and fruit intake reduces your need for taking a multi vitamin plus increases your antioxidant intake.

There is no proof, what so ever, that a person must eat animal flesh or any by products of animals to be healthy, yet there is overwhelming proof that it truely is best not to!

These die hard meat eaters talk utter nonsense and are constantly making up these radical stories about vegetarians being unhealth and it real nonsense.

Being a vegetarian is not a healthier lifestyle than eating meat. It can be equally healthy if there is time and effort put into it but there are essential minerals and proteins(not sure what they are but ask a nutritionist[with a degree] or doctor) found in meat which are hard to reproduce with a vegetarian ,especially vegan, diet. The fact is that humans are a species that is built to survive by eating anything we can (that is absolutely true and scientific) so the healthiest possible diet is one that encompasses all of the food groups, in moderation of course, including lean meats.

Aside from a rigged up idiotic impeachment based on a consensual, albeit slimy, sexual relationship, when was the last time a president was impeached on solid evidence of anything job-related? I'd bet that just about every single president we've ever had could have been, based on actual actions, been impeached for something, depending on whoever else in power would benefit from it. Doesn't happen often. Business as usual is way more convenient and profitable for the power brokers of the world than is world justice, Constitutional respect, or ethics/morality.

I'm a meat eater, and I've never heard that a vegetarian diet is nutritionally lacking. ? Hey, if it works for you, more power to ya.

No evidence. The only answers you are going to get are the stupid ones "if god didn't want us to make animals why did he make them of meat?" kinds. In lands of plenty, where we CAN get fresh fruits, varied grains, and many many vegetables, there is NO benefit to eating meat.

There is no evidence. I aften see things like "you need meat" or "you need supplements"

All rubbish. Or maybe i'm dead, who knows ?

I've been veggie for 27 years and am never ill, don't take supplements and live an active life running my arable farm and telecoms businesses.

Having no thoughts to the animals pain, cruelty, torture and death just because you "like meat" is a tad selfish. I notice the answer above gives absolutely no thought to the animal, just her health. "why concern", "what use is a pig"....ok

meat eaters happily point out we are lacking in many answers, but when you ask them a specific question they all run and hide. A bit like the fishy people.

EDIT: I notice they are able to read your q&a and give thumbs down, but not give any answers !

clearly a vegetarian diet can be more nutritionally complete than a "diet rich in meat", however, i think that you have to concede that a thoughtful, healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and small portions of lean meats that are high in proteins can be as nutritionally complete.

why are so many people concerned about having one or the other? you can eat smart and still include donations from both camps...

people forget that poor countries are the ones where only fruits, vegetables, and grains are grown...in rich countries, meat is a staple because it is afforded...raising animals for consumption (and yes, that is why they are here...if we weren't going to eat them, they wouldn't exist in the numbers that they do...i mean what use would there be for a pig?) is extremely expensive and wasteful of resources...we are growing grain for animals to eat, just so we can eat them...it doesn't make sense nor is it financially viable for poor countries to do this...

could i live without eating meat ever again, yeah, probably if i had to...i gave up smoking after 19 years, so i could give up meat...but while my intake of meats has definitely been vastly reduced in the last couple of years, just out of personal choice, i like eating meat sometimes...it is a good source of protein and even the small components of fats from lean pieces of meat contribute to the flavor of dishes...
don't get me wrong, i love fruits and vegetables,(I worked in the produce business for over two decades) especially the last seven or eight years since i stopped smoking and can actually taste food, and appreciate them for the flavors that they bring to the table, but there is no comparable substitute for the flavors that meat brings to some dishes...why would i settle?

if you are a vegetarian, then good for you. it is clearly because you were afforded the choice that you have decided to be what you are...i hope you can afford me the same ability to make a choice for myself...

Um... some dude made a web page in his mom's basement. It is totally credible, I swear.

The page is right next to "plants have feelings" and "vegetarians eat animals.
:)

Some days I just feel silly.
