Since you don't have much time left to plan anything, I'd go for something simple and unexpected. Make it an Italian dinner party. Make a couple of different sauces ( meat sauce and a white clam sauce maybe ) that you can make in advance and slowly rewarm as you cook large pots of pasta. Get some wonderful crusty Italian bread, toss a huge salad and dress with Italian dressing right before serving. You can buy the salad all ready prepackaged in the grocery store. Go to your local wine merchant and ask for recommendations of the wines to serve with the different sauces. Get cheap red and white checked table covers to cover your tables. Use red, white and green crepe paper streamers to decorate the eating area. Have 3 different sized red fat pillar candles serve as your centerpieces. Serve a selection of cheeses, crackers and grapes as your appetizer. Offer a different wine than what you will be serving with your meal. The most expensive part of the meal will be the wines. It might be fun to ask your guests to bring an Italian wine to the party. That way it will cut back on your expenses, and you can all try tasting something different. Happy Birthday! Have fun, whatever you choose to do.

Plan with a theme. Since these people are Russian, what theme would be intriguing for them? A mystery dinner is very fun...takes a little creative thought to plan the "crime". I did it in a room of 100 people while they never moved out of their chairs.....used a dinner cruise theme...had everyone dress up...put crystal, etc. on the table with candlelight, etc...then had the mystery go on during the dinner....the "crime" was when the lights went out, someone screams, and the captain is "dead"...or however you want to do it.
You plan the "characters" in the play....but no one knows who the murderer is....then at the end...before you tell...have everyone vote who do they think it is....It can be very fun.
My daughter did this and had the victim under the table with their legs sticking out. At the very end...the "victim" suddenly came to life...was only sleeping under the table. It brought the house down.

I suggest you make appetizer like foods. Here is a delicious idea:
Cut chicken fillets into bite sized cubes. Sautee in olive oil. Season with salt, pepper, thyme, oregano, and Mrs. Dash. Cut green and red bell peppers into the same sized cubes and fry them with the chicken. Add half a cup of white wine to every 1/2 pound of chicken you use. Add worsSeason any way you like.Let it simmer. After the chicken is cooked. Remove from heat. Use toothpicks to make mini kabobs of the chicken and bell peppers. Pour the remaining sauce over the platter in which you're serving it on.
If you want to make the remaining sauce a type of gravey, stir in 1 tablespoon of flour for every cup of remaining sauce...
HOpe that helps! Enjoy!
