keep your toenails trimmed. make sure there is no cuts or blisters.by shoes that fit. wear only white socks, the dye can cause infection if you have a cut. i know these things because i lost my left leg due to a blister that would not heal and the infection went to the Bone. go see a foot care doctor regularly. it is better to stop any problems before they happen when it comes to your feet. good luck and stay safe.

always wear something on your feet, make sure you wear clean dry socks. make sure that the shoes fit well and won't cause blisters, and check your feet regularly. don't cut your toenails too short, but at the same time not too long. The problem is feet get neglected, but for a diabetic when the feeling is not as good in their feet they don't always notice little things until they become big things. also diabetics don't heal quite as well.

1) always inspect your feet---use a mirror to see every nook and cranny, esp. between the toes, balls of the joints and the heel (areas subject to high pressures when walking)

2) regularly see your diabetician and podiatrist for foot check-up. the cutaneous sensation to your feet should be regularly assessed using the 10g monofilament test

3) keep your feet clean at all times

4) do not walk around barefooted, even at home

5) keep your feet moisturized-dry feet are more prone to friction related changes

6) avoid excess moisture, especially in between the toes (these leads to fungal infections and maceration of the tissues)

7) wear well-fitting shoes with thick socks (the well-fitting shoes will prevent unnecessary friction)

8) have yourself checked for gait disturbances-the gait disturbance exposes your feet to selective undue pressure to certain areas of your feet-->you may also need specialized shoes to "off-load" the excessive pressure, especially if you have gross deformities like bunions

9) always keep in mind that diabetics eventually will have impaired cutaneous sensation-->be careful about the temperature and texture of liquids or surfaces you expose your feet to.

10) take care regarding trimming your toenails. not to short as to injure your nailbed but not to long also; ask a professional to trim in-grown toenails

11) calluses may need to be trimmed by a professional podiatrist

Yo-yos? I beg your pardon.
Make your feet your new best friend. Take care of them. Give yourself a foot bath when you need it, a pedicure when you want one. Keep your toenail fastidiously clean and always have clean socks and well-fitting shoes.

Any wound needs to be cleaned and dressed immediately. Sometimes during the winter, I sleep with socks on - it helps my feet stay warm and helps circulation to have socks on.
It keeps your body temperature up (feet are one of the main sites where you lose body heat) so you may not need that extra blanket some nights if you are using socks to keep your feet warm. If you wake up too hot, you can take them off.

you check your feet every day. sometimes you could break a bone inside of your foot and not feel it that is how you get sores on the feet open ones. this is very bad as they have hard time healing. you can have tiingling and that is bad. you have to watch your feet not bind them. have them checked every time you do to doctor. regular doc or specialist. have someone cut your nails intead of you doing it could cause problems.
