80% of people with herpes do not know they have got it. It isn't even part of a standard std screen, so people get tested and thik they are clear when they aren't. Also is her herpes definitely genital? Many people catch genital herpes from their partner's oral herpes (cold sores) and 80% of people have this.

According to the CDC, about 75% of people infected with Herpes are not aware that they have it. This is because for most people, the outbreaks are so mild or in some cases without symptoms at all that they have no reason to suspect that they have anything wrong with them.

There is a very great chance she didn't know. If she had never had an outbreak before, she probably never would have known. Herpes can lie symptomless for years and have no physical signs or symptoms.

She could have not known. The real question is do YOU trust HER. If you do, don't ruin a good relationship over this. Learn to live with it together. I am guessing that both of you have it now.

A lot of people carry the virus and don't know they have it, especially if they are symptom free.
