The campground has no electricity for individual sites. How can I have my own source of power?

Rebecca - The reason I need a power source is because my daughter has a heart condition and needs a defibulator along with her in case of emergencies. So it is something very necessary for her health. She loves to camp and we never had any probelms, but I need to bring it just in case. If I am camping without my daughter, thats another story, I "rough it" every chance I get!

In my jeep I have a power inverter which I highly recommend. This device turns your cars 12 volts into a household 120 volt. Generators are expensive and noisy. You turn your car on and you instantly have anywhere from 1 to 4 outlets available. Power inverters are sold in different sizes. The smaller ones run protable devices (laptops, dvd players, etc) while the larger ones are capable of powering a microwave or any appliance!

Great advice:

I've never used this company, but you can check it out:

You can also get these at any auto store or wal-mart or k-mart even. Good luck.

Generally speaking, your power source will have to come from your vehicle. I would definately find out if the campground will allow for vehicles to run while you are camped there. I am not sure how much energy is required to power a difibulator, but if you will only need it in an emergency, then I would think the campground would allow this. But if it required the vehicle to be running a lot, then the campground would probably not allow it, so it would be best to camp somewhere else where this is not an issue for you.

It might be wise to just camp somewhere else anyway, where you don't have to worry about this problem, since it's not just about wanting to have easy light or music. I feel like since this is one involving life and death, then you need a very reliable energy source, maybe even a backup source.

Generator? Maybe-maybe not!!
Not unusual for campgrounds to have designated “quiet times” in effect at certain times.

But a very good source if your interested in buying a good one at a reasonable price is

generatordepot.us

Have bought several of them there.

If just 12v lights, etc. A good portable battery pack. The type used to “jump start” a vehicle is an alternative. Prices start at about $25.

Buy the 12 v screw in bulbs at about any place that sells camping supplies.

The best choice would be the power inverter, like CV said. Thats what I use & they will hook to your car battery & dont cost very much. You can also buy a portable power pack, but those cost more. Try www.sportchalet.com for power packs. Inverters you can buy at most electronics or auto parts stores. Have fun camping!

Plug-in anywhere!
The E! Power Pak™ is safe, durable, and easy to use. Just charge, plug, and power!

Charge the E! Power Pak before your camping trip.
Plug it into your tent’s factory-installed E! Power wiring system, and power your favorite 12-volt accessories using any of your tent’s three built-in outlets. Note: Run times are dependent upon the accessory; the E! Power Fan/Light can run up to 18.5 hrs independently.

Have not used it yet but my wife wants me to get one. Have heard great things!

How about bringing along a portable defibrillator, like the kind they have hanging on the wall in airports and a lot of public buildings. They have long life batteries.

There are portable power packs however they can be quite heavy. If you are not hiking to your campsite and have access to your vehicle, you can purchase a cigarette lighter adapter which will allow you to plug into a standard electrical socket. Very small and compact.

A defibrillator runs off of its own batteries you don't need a source of power to run it.

I need to ask: What are you taking with that needs a power source?
