I went out and bought myself a vitamix commercial blender. Yes with the idea to improve my overall health. Purchased a 10 pound can of fresh spirulina power.

Two days ago I had three smoothies during the day with 2 tablespoons each of spirulina power, then 2 the following day and only one this morning.

My symptoms:

Feeling faint
bad headache that seems to come and go
shakiness, tremebling
nausea off and on
bloating
light headed
sweaty off and on all day

Will these systems go away? Am I taking too much here or what? I feel like death

That is a typo about the 10 pound can right? :-)
I'm going to assume you bought 100% spirulina and not a blend also.

I'd guess that you're overdosing on VIt A (and other vitamins/minerals) based on that dosage of 12 tablespoons.Your listed symptoms match that idea anyway.

Depending on which sub-strain of spirulina your brand uses, you could have eaten up to 315,000IU of vitamin A. That's over 60 times the recommended intake!!

You might want to look up vitamin A overdose and possibly see a doctor for testing!

The first thing I'd ask you is, what are you putting in the blender -- usually people do some very "bad mixed" as far as digestion is concerned. Mixing fruits with veggies and nuts and ... basically some really bad and weird concoctions.

That said, yes, it could also be detox. Not knowing anything else about you or your lifestyle etc it's impossible to say, but I do know others who have had some pretty spectacular detox effects from it. One person I met who was started eating a lot of it (super blue green algae - similar), broke out in a rash all over his body. He went to his doctor and the doc was perplexed. Took a sample and had it sent to the lab. It came back that it was asbestos! Year and years earlier (decades) he had worked removing asbestos (before they knew just how very bad it was). His body was pushing the asbestos out to the surface of his skin. It's like a smoker who suddenly quits; the body sees its opportunity to do something and immediately starts purging the system and the smoker becomes terribly ill and coughing up black gunk.

So that's 6 tablespoons per day... hm... never heard of such symptoms before related specifically to spirulina... but, it could be a bad batch or you are just not used to it, or having some sort of reaction, or you are mixing it with things that you really shouldn't mix it with.

You are in the swing of DETOX. With all the health smoothies you have started cleaning your system. Like any with dralw of cleansing it it's not fun. Drink lots of fluids, try not to over do.
Even stop the Spirulina or cut back.
It is possible you are allergic, someone is a allergic to everything.
Did you eat or drink anything else or was it straight into the Smoothies only? That can make a difference in a detox too. Sad but our bodies have no other way to get rid of all the toxins we have been putting in it(usually for years).

I hope this helps.
Slainté (to your health)

The truth of the matter is that spirulina is a "natural product" and, as such, there is no documentation on any side effects. Natural products do not go through the stringent testing that the FDA does on medication. Without that testing, side effects are not documented and the product is untested. You are using it at your own risk.

The lack of testing allows natural products to be sold without any warnings and with the ability to claim anything the parent company wishes to claim. They are not held to any standards nor are they responsible to prove that the product will do what they claim it will do. That is why so many natural products can say they are fabulous at weight control when in reality, they don't do anything. Claiming it doesn't make it so since they don't have to prove it via the FDA approval process.

I suggest you cut back on the amount you are using to see if your symptoms improve. If not, the reality is that you might be allergic to it. Natural does not mean allergy free. If your symptoms lessen or disappear, then slowly increase the amount you consume until you attain your goal. Otherwise, you may have to stop using it.
