Blame abrahamic religions... and society... and the meat industry...
I've been doing my part...LOL I try to answer every fish-eater question I see. And I make sure to let people know that words like pescevegetarian and pescetarian are incorrect words to describe a diet(and that all they do is blur the line between meat-eater and vegetarian). I wrote a blog about it too... I guess we just have to politely correct people everytime the subject comes up... no matter how b*tchy we sound to them...

Prozacnation: There is no plant in existence, not now and not ever, that has ever had a central nervous system. No plant suffers from being eaten. No plant has the capacity to feel pain, fear, anxiety, etc. For eating, killing plants is fine. Killing animals is not. They have feelings, both physical and emotional. We're the most intelligent species on the planet, therefore it's our responsibility to take care of all the other species, both flora and fauna.
Besides, we're physiologically designed to be herbivores. Not omnivores, certainly not carnivores, but herbivores.
Now back to the question:
I totally, TOTALLY agree with you. Pescatarians/piscivores (I don't know which one is correct) are NOT VEGETARIANS. I wish people would NOT claim to be vegetarians if they're gonna eat animals.
Rey Mysterio rules:
You said:
"Well I am a pescotarian" ...... "I am a pescotarian. I am proud!"
Cool.
You also said:
"A vegetarian who eats meat"....... "I am NOT a vegetarian."
Wait, you're a vegetarian who eats meat. HUH????? Talk about oxymoron! You said you are a vegetarian (who eats meat - good one), then you say you're not a vegetarian. Which one is it? Either you are or you're not, and by definition, a vegetarian is one who consumes no meat. Since fish is a meat, and you eat fish, then you are not a vegetarian. There is no ifs, ands, or buts here. You are a pescatarian/piscivore (I don't know which one is correct), and not a vegetarian. PLEASE DO NOT say you are, it just perpetuates the confusion.
Finally, you said:
"I don't think a fish is considerd meat."
Oh really? Fish are in the animal kingdom, look it up. You may not consider fish to be animals, and you have the right to think that, but you help confuse the masses when you let what's in your mind escape into words. This is incorrect, because fish animals.
Here are the first two definitions of "fish" found in the Merrian-Webster dictionary:
1 a : an aquatic animal -- usually used in combination b : any of numerous cold-blooded strictly aquatic craniate vertebrates that include the bony fishes and usually the cartilaginous and jawless fishes and that have typically an elongated somewhat spindle-shaped body terminating in a broad caudal fin, limbs in the form of fins when present at all, and a 2-chambered heart by which blood is sent through thoracic gills to be oxygenated
2 : the flesh of fish used as food
Told ya. Sorry I was harsh, but your words were ridiculous. Clarity must be shown.
Btw, if you don't think fish is meat, why did you say you're a vegetarian who eats meat?
(to everyone)
Btw, the Catholic Church is not a nutritional board, so let's not look to them for official food classification.

I always tell people that if they would find the food sold in the meat section of a market, then it's meat, and vegetarians don't eat meat.
My dad would come down to visit me every few months and want to take me somewhere to eat. No matter how often I told him I was a vegetarian he always thought that I could eat fish, so he would be recommending a fish restaurant to eat at.

Here is what the vegetarian society ( THE recognised world leaders on vegetarian issues ) say about it
http://www.vegsoc.org/fish/
The dictionaries ( the moderated ones, not some modern internet website ) say "vegetarians do not eat meat, fish, poultry nor slaughter by-products"
semi/demi/psuedo/flexi...all rubbish band-wagon jumping nonsense.
The world can be a simple place if we want it to be.
eat what you like, but leave us veggies alone
EDIT: ha, ha...we are up against it aren't we..Rey is a "A vegetarian who eats meat" and said it without laughing, i think they were actually serious !!
It what other walks of life is it acceptable to make up definitions of words ???NONE I'm anglosaxon/white. How would it be if i described myself as a Morrocan muslim ?? See, just does not make sense....words have definitions for a reason.

Vegetarian: For the purpose of membership of IVU, vegetarianism includes veganism and is defined as the practice of not eating meat, poultry or fish or their by-products, with or without the use of dairy products or eggs.
Often broken down further into OVO-LACTO, and LACTO. Vegetarians may or may not try and minimize their non food use of animals like vegans.
Ovo-Lacto Vegetarian: same as VEGAN (see right), but also eats eggs and milk products. This is the most 'popular' form of Vegetarianism in many Western countries..
Lacto Vegetarian: Same as VEGAN, but also eats milk products.
Veggie -- Shortened nick-name for a VEGETARIAN; often includes VEGANs.
Strict vegetarian: originally meant vegan, now can mean vegan or vegetarian.
Vegan: excludes animal flesh (meat, poultry, fish and seafood), animal products (eggs and dairy), and usually excludes honey and the wearing and use of animal products (leather, silk, wool, lanolin, gelatin...).
The major vegan societies all disallow honey, but some "vegans" still use it. Some "vegans" also refuse to eat yeast products.

You could try posting a question on Yahoo Answers, something like "How can we get the word out that vegetarians do NOT eat fish??"

Yeah, it's stupid and hypocritical how vegetarians thinks it's cruel to animals to eat meat, but it's okay to eat fish. They have lives, too.
