Almost everyday, I have a sudden moment of being short-breathed (a few hours sometimes) Aslo, I feel my heart, it has a strange rhythm, for a few beats, it beats somewhat quickly, then for two beats or so, I feel it thump slowly for a few seconds. Also, I sometimes feel numbness in my arms, abdomen, and face.

I would also appreciate some advice on what to do until I can go see a doctor.

This is called an arrhythmia, which is a general term for a irregular heartbeat. The causes are quite varied, but if I were you I'd make getting to a doctor my #1 top priority. In the meantime, you should avoid caffeine, stress, strenuous activity like heavy lifting, and cold medicines since some decongestants can increase your heart rate.

I have it too. Stress and caffine will make it worse. When it's happening the best thing you can do is lay down, be still and relax knowing it will pass.

I think diet plays an important part too. I went at least a year without any problems but lately they've been coming back. My diet has had a lot more sodium/salt in it lately. Alcohol will make it worse too.

Definitly get to a doctor though.

I would suggest not waiting to see a Dr., unless it is tomorrow, but to go to the emergency room, get checked out right away. it may be nothing, but I wouldn't fool around waiting. have someone bring you, because it's not a good idea for you to drive yourself. okay? God Speed.

you should go to a doctor, I had that problem a few years ago and was High blood pressure, it can also be something about your heart, so better don't take a chance and go with doctor.
