you can tell him how you feel about him smoking, but quite frankly there isn't a thing you can do until he actually wants to quit. Once he wants to, nothing will stop him. Provide him with all the latest information on smoking and on smoking cessation, you can get this free from the American Heart and Lung association....then you just have to hope that one day he wants to quit.

I've been there and know how you feel. After seeing so many of my ex-husband's family die from the emphizema-sp? My answer would be is pray for him. Only God can change the heart of man. That's what he needs. Dad also needs to see it for himself. In order for a person to want to change they have to come to be tired of that way of living. Until then... I don't think there is nothing you can do or say to help that person. Though I think begging and pleading is useless in the case of addiction I would tell dad that...I love you so much and i just don't want to see you depart from me any sooner than you need to. I want my grandchildren to know my daddy. You are so important to me and my future. Things like that. I believe with prayer, and only love (no hostile or bossy words) will bring the you the "answer" you are looking for!

Hide his ciggarettes....
Or tell him about the sicknesses he can get (lung cancer, ect.)
Beg him, and say that you really care and that you want him to live longer, and suggest you helping him.
Tell him that there are thing to help u stop smoking.... Patches, gum, some medicine, and offer to buy it (if you have money!).
Be serious when you talk to him, so that he knows that you mean it.
Good Luck, and I am sorry.

Unfortunately, he has to do it for himself. I smoked when I was younger and ended up with asthma, and have gained 100 pounds from yearly steroids, but that won't stop my friends who smoke from lighting up! You might leave pamphlets about quitting laying around where he can find them or talk to a doctor about ideas.
