I am on a basically vegan diet. i would really like to have a book(not website) that i can refer to about what nutrients I need to be getting and different ways I can get them. I know I can find some books on websites but I dont want to end up buying an uninformative book.

There's a book called "Becoming Vegan", you'll like that one. Packed with all kinds of info. I disagree with some of it, but mostly it will set you on the right path and you can investigate the details yourself.

Here's a excerpt form a vegan book I pass around to people with some additional information added:

I recommend The American Vegetarian Cookbook from the Fit For Life Kitchen. It's vegan, has everything from what kinds of pots and pans to use, to recipes, to nutritional listing, recipe substitutes, ... it's an all in one reference if you ask me. You can find this huge book in used book stores for probably $10 I bet. Or look at abebooks.com to order or find a place near you.

I like the following:

Howard Lyman's "No More Bull." He's a former cattle rancher who quit the family business and went vegan a few years later. He deals with mostly the health and environmental aspects of veganism. You might also want to check out his first book "Mad Cowboy."

John Robbins' "Diet for a New America." He is heir to the Baskin Robbins fortune who walked away because two of his relatives (I think it was his father and uncle) died relatively young of stroke and heart disease.

I know you don't want a website, but Physicians' Committee Responsible Medicine (www.pcrm.org) might be able to recommend more books about nutrition.

I think you might be looking for "Becoming Vegan" by the authors Davis and Melina. It's fantastic.
