(Please do NOT tell me to see/ask a doc/nutritionist b/c I would have done so already if I had the $$$ or insurance. Do not tell me to eat more veggies & fruits & whole/fresh foods b/c I already have been doing that for a long time now. Do not tell me to exercise b/c that is a "DUH" & I am doing that now. Also, please don't try to "school me" on my vegan diet such as saying "get plenty of protein & calcium".)

Calories: 1270 to 1580 calories per day, so I am now aiming for 1400 per day instead of 1270 or 1300.

Percentages are as follows:

* (55%) of carbohydrates
* (18%) of fat (12% unsaturated, 6% saturated)
* (27%) of protein

I am:

* Female
* 25 yrs
* 63 inches
* 173.5 pounds
* My goal weight is 125 pounds, I would like to loose 1 to 1.25 pounds per week so I can reach my goal within 8 to 12 months.

~ I am vegan
~ I drink plenty of water

So, is what I have above a *healthy* diet to *aid* me in loosing the amount of weight I want to shed off in the given amount of time? If not, please advise and state percentages like how I wrote above.

No, I've been vegan for about 7 years now.

I've been on a
(55%) carbs
(25%) fat
(20%) protein
diet for about a week now
but now I want to change my percentages so that I am getting more protein and less carbs because I've been reading stuff that suggest that.

Before this, I've just been eating whatever veggies and fruits mindlessly for about two years now. Before that I eat pre-made vegan foods (processed foods) and fresh veggies and some fruits and some junk foods. Of course this is what made me over weight to begin with lol.

You're going down the right path in terms of diet percentages. Actually, most nutritionist recommend 55% carbs, 30% fat and 15% protien for a typical diet. However, I've had sucess with the percentage you are using.

The thing you need to be careful of is going too low in calories where your body thinks it's in starvation mode... which triggers the body to conserve body fat while sacraficing muscle mass. The recommendation is 1 to 2 pounds/week weight loss, which you're doing.

Did you recently switch to a vegan diet?

It seems as if you are doing the right thing, although I might try to get my fat down to 12 to 15 percent total and up the complex carbs. Aiming for about a pound a week is also a reasonable goal.

How long have you been on the diet?

Your diet looks testbook for weight loss. You willlikely get a bunch of clowns telling you to boost your proteein, but I would keep it the same. You may want to consider dropping a bit of fat for carbs and increaseing your activity.

Try

60 carbs
10 fat
30 protein

You seem to have a grasp on your situation, but still not getting the results you want.

Try to tweak a few things.

1. Look at the types of carbs you are consuming. Aim for complex carbohydrates. No processed anything. Dark green vegetables that are low density and calorie negative. Avoid starchy vegetables including carrots. Avoid fruits such as bananas, pineapple, mangoes, and oranges as they contain too much sugar.

2. Try to up your protein intake to 33%. Protein will keep you fuller, longer.

3. Look at the type of exercise you are doing. Weight lifting will raise your metabolism and keep it raised a lot longer than cardio will. If you do cardio, swim. Lift weights whenever you can. Muscles burn a lot of calories.

Uping your calories to 1400 is a smart move.

Best of luck.
